BELTS & CONVEYORS

the confectionery industry is the cooling, casting and solidifi cation of products such as hard melt candy, caramel, jelly sweets and more. Typically, the product is deposited in the form of a liquid melt onto a continuously running steel belt and transported through a cooling tunnel. Cooling is affected by chilled air above the product, chilled water sprayed onto the underside of the belt, or a combination of the two.

“Whatever the cooling medium, the heat transfer properties of a stainless-steel belt will help to ensure quick and controlled solidifi cation,” says Marko. “This, and the fl at, hard and smooth surface of the steel belt, combine to ensure clean discharge at the end of the system, even with sticky products. Food grade release agents can also be used if required.” The same principle of controlled cooling on a steel belt

is widely used for the pastillation of ingredient products such as chewing gum base, chocolate, fats, emulsifi ers and additives. IPCO can offer a solution that consists of a heated

cylindrical stator – which is supplied with liquid product – and a perforated rotating shell that turns concentrically around the stator. Drops of the product are deposited by the nozzle bar across the width of the stainless-steel cooling belt. The solution can be supplied on its own, or as part of a complete steel belt-based cooling system.

Spill-free solutions

For those seeking a conveying solution that offers less spillage, or downtime due to the need for cleaning and maintenance, tubular drag conveyors may offer a solution that is also less energy intensive than the alternative – pneumatic conveying systems. Tubular drag cable conveyors are able to gently move product through a sealed tube using a coated, fl exible stainless-steel drag cable pulled through on a loop. Solid circular discs are attached to the cable, which push the product through the tube without the need for air. This type of conveyor is well- suited to transporting delicate ingredients.

A common application for steel belts is the cooling, casting and solidifi cation of confectionery products.
