industry NEWS Tasty Mates announces fi rst major grocery partnership

Tasty Mates, a gourmet vegan confectionary brand, is excited to announce that they have partnered with online British grocery giant Ocado, as their fi rst major grocery stockist. The gourmet gummy sweet brand, who are also stocked in Holland & Barrett, W H Smiths, Daylesford Farm and The Vegan Kind Supermarket, as well as Tastymates.co.uk have seen incredible growth since their launch in 2021. Tasty Mates, founded by friends Joe and Nick – who sought to

portray their mates through unique sweet fl avours, pride their gummy sweets on being 100% vegan and made from only natural colours and fl avourings. Demand for vegan confectionery in the UK is currently soaring. As the plant-based food industry booms, millennials and Gen Z’s are key drivers in this market growth. Sustainability is a central part of Tasty Mates brand ethos, they

care a lot about their other mate – the planet, ensuring their sweets have as small an impact on the environment as possible. Tasty Mates packets are 100% recyclable, using Polyethylene which can be widely recycled in the UK and Europe. This is something they are proud of, but they know they can do better. The aim is to become 100% biodegradable as the business grows, and for Tasty Mates packets to disappear after use, having precisely ZERO impact on the environment. This ethos is shared with their new partners Ocado, who are big players in this sector

with commitment to being the UK’s most sustainable grocer. Sweet lovers in the UK will be pleased to hear three Tasty

Mates fl avours, Pear Crumble, Very Berry and Salted Caramel will be shoppable in single packets via Ocado from 8th August 2022, with 136g bags retailing at £2.49. Joe Woolf and Nick Sunshine, Co-Founders of Tasty Mates,

commented on the launch; “We are delighted to have teamed up with Ocado, as our fi rst major grocer – less than 18 months after launching! We are so proud of our range and we can’t wait for our new MATES on Ocado to try our tasty fl avours.”

KitKat launches brand new KitKat Chunky fl avour

Nestlé’s KitKat has announced a brand new KitKat Chunky, where wafer meets smooth caramel. Launched at the end of July, the latest edition to the Chunky line-up features a thick layer of runny caramel atop the brand’s classic wafer, all covered by KitKat’s trademark smooth milk chocolate. Callum Smith, Assistant Brand Manager for KitKat said: “A

new KitKat Chunky is always one of the year’s most anticipated confectionery launches, and we think fans will be delighted with our latest innovation.” “Caramel is offi cially the nation’s number one fl avour*, and

we’ve taken it to the next level by combining a delicious layer of runny caramel with our crisp KitKat wafer to create a taste sensation. When we trialled the newest Chunky fl avour at Nestlé House we got a rapturous response, so we can’t wait to hear what everybody thinks!” Since launching in 1999, KitKat Chunky has delighted fans with its exciting limited editions, including Salted Caramel Popcorn, Peanut Butter, Cookie Dough, Coconut, Chocolate Fudge and New York Cheesecake. Like the rest of the KitKat range, Chunky is made with 100%

certifi ed sustainable cocoa. More widely, the KitKat brand is striving to become carbon neutral by 2025; and Nestlé Confectionery UK & Ireland is aiming to halve the carbon footprint of its local fresh milk supply by 2026. This involves helping farmers to adopt sustainable farming practices that will help protect and restore natural resources such as soil, water and biodiversity around their farms over the years to come, while continuing to produce the best quality milk for Nestlé products.
