Feature: Power supplies

Multi-function power supplies for industrial use

By Boris Adlung, Sales Manager, Rigol P

ower supplies are indispensable in the daily work of almost every development project. With today’s developments, both current and voltage supplies

– whether standard or user-defined – are becoming a must. When it comes to IoT devices, their

development requires checking their nominal input currents but also their operation in sleep mode when currents are very small. Devices under test (DUTs) can be very sensitive to fluctuations in the supply, to the point of being destroyed, so they require very precise and clean supplies.

Ideal for industrial applications Rigol now offers DP2031, a 222W multi- function power supply for DC power, ideal for industrial applications. Tis is a regulated, linear power supply with three fully-isolated channels, featuring very clean, stable and precise output voltages and currents; its output ripple and noise

behaviour are below 350µVrms/2mVpp @ 20Hz-20MHz. With internal regulation

this power supply maintains stable output voltages, regardless of any mains fluctuations. Te first two channels each provide a

DC output voltage/current of up to 32V and 3A, with the third channel outputting 6V/10A. Te first two channels can be connected in series or parallel, to double the output to 64V at 3A or 6A at 32V respectively, avoiding the need for any external connections. Depending on the load, the power

supply switches the output mode to either constant voltage (CV) or constant current (CC) source. In CV mode the output voltage is stable and corresponds to the set voltage; CC mode provides the opposite. A limit can also be set for both current

and voltage, and the equipment has integrated over-temperature protection. Te DP2031 also features very fast transient response of below 50µs when the load changes from 50% to 100%, or vice versa.
