TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION

New blowdown station The BD1000 from AirBench is a self-contained blowdown station

for the removal of coolant and swarf from machined parts.

An operator can simply place parts in the cabinet, lower the screen, and use the integral blow gun to clean parts using factory compressed air. An integral venturi system assists with capture of coolant, and the filter system in the base of the unit is easily replaced when full. The 1000mm wide BD1000 joins the

existing 500mm wide BD500 and is designed for longer components. Both models run solely from factory air supplies with no requirement for electrical connections, making them suitable for sitting next to machine tools for regular operator use. Maintenance is minimal with only occasional filter pad changes required.

Quick and efficient van loading Joloda delivers a quick and efficient load for Amelia Knight cosmetics.

Amelia Knight supplies cosmetics to Asda, Primark and many other large retailers and has invested in another Vanloda system bringing further efficiencies to its deliveries. The cosmetic products are moved in

metal containers which sit on pallets. The Vanloda allows the heavy pallet to be easily rolled in and out of the van. They previously used straps and ropes

to load and unload but now with Vanloda they have reduced loading times, provide safe loading conditions for their drivers and no van damage. The van was supplied by Matt Walker from Volkswagen Van Centre in Stoke, the Vanloda system

was supplied from stock and fitted in just a few hours, so by the next day the van was on the road making deliveries.

Klimate K2 High Speed Freezer Door Proven to improve performance in food cold stores whilst lowering

operating costs

Following the successful installation of 74 K2 Freezer Doors at one of the UK’s largest supermarket chains distribution centres, Klimate High Speed Doors, a trading division of BID Group Ltd, with over 25 years experience in the design, manufacture, installation, service and repair of high speed doors, unveil their improved revolutionary frost free high speed door, the ‘Klimate K2’. Reducing your carbon footprint is increasingly important these days but can be aided by using the

Klimate K2 High Speed Freezer Door on Freezer and Chilled areas. The doors will help to improve traffic flow and minimise variation in temperatures which in turn will reduce costly energy loss and therefore improve the efficiency of your freezer. In addition to this the K2 Freezer door itself is energy efficient as it only requires a 20 Amp supply.

Modular adapter system

The new IMAS-CONNECT adapter system by icotek is a modular designed grommet system for mounting metric connectors, keystone couplers, hose fittings, pressure compensation elements and much more. By using the modular adapter

system, the cable entry becomes a hybrid system. Pre-terminated and standard cables or hoses can be routed and, with the use of the IMAS-CONNECT grommets, you can now integrate various types of connectivity ports into the frame system. Additional knock-outs are no longer required. The elastomer-made grommets of the adapter system with a body made of polyamide or nickel-plated

brass, fit perfectly into existing icotek cable entry frames, such as KEL-U, KEL-ER, KEL-FG and meet IP54 or IP65 protection levels. The available metric threads of the AT-KM series are M5 x 0.5, M8 x 1.0, M12 x 1.0, M12 x 1.5. The AT-M is M12x 1.0, M16 x 1.5, M20 x 1.5 or M25 x 1.5.

New Machine Helps Surface Finishers Keep Their Fingers on the Pulse

A new stream finishing machine featuring OTEC Präzisionsfinish patented pulse drive technology ‘Pulsfinish’ has arrived at UK precision component surface finishing specialist, Fintek. The new machine follows on from the delivery of a new generation OTEC stream finishing machine in July.

Fintek operations manager, Jamie Phillips explained, “The difference

‘Pulsfinish’ makes to mass finishing is substantial. Pulse finishing produces rapid relative motion between the media and workpiece by quickly changing the direction of rotation of the work holding heads in a programmed and controlled way. High speed acceleration and deceleration increases the finishing forces exerted on the workpiece making it possible to accurately and evenly deburr, round and smooth surfaces from Rpk 0.2µm to 0.1µm in under a minute.”

“The pulse finishing equipped SF machine is ideal for meeting the needs of

manufacturers in aerospace, high level motorsport, automotive, medical device and tool making,” added Jamie.

As with all OTEC equipment, precise process repeatability assures consistent

component surface finishing quality, quickly. A vital consideration for all precision parts manufacturers.

FACTORY&HANDLINGSOLUTIONS | OCTOBER 2019 81 Another important sector where ‘Pulsfinish’ is set to make a difference

is the mass finishing of additively manufactured components. Recently, Fintek used the system as part of a Innovate UK sponsored research project that brought together a team of experts under the leadership of Croft Additive Manufacturing (CAM) and that included Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and surface finishing experts, Fintek.

In addition to Fintek’s subcontract services, the company is also the UK

agent for OTEC Präzisionsfinish’s advanced range of centrifugal disc, drag and stream finishing systems. From stand-alone units to fully automated systems for inline production, process media, consumables and expertise are available from Fintek.
