Harnessing Industry 4.0 to Create a ‘Smart Factory’
The rise of automation and machinery capable of talking to one another has led many experts to proclaim that we are in the age of the fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), with the potential to change not only manufacturing but the world. These Industrial Revolutions appear to be
happening at an ever-increasing rate due to rapid technological advancements. Meaning it is crucial for factories to stay ahead of these advancements as each passing Industrial
Revolution has offered vast opportunities for factories to improve their efficiency and product quality, whilst increasing output by utilising new, innovative methods. The fourth Industrial Revolution is no different, as it uses big data and the Industrial Internet of
Things (IIOT) to allow machinery integration that enables the machines to independently optimise each part of the process for ever-faster production. Find out how your factory can benefit from Industry 4.0 in our free guide

Combilift wins Design4Safety Award
Combilift added yet another award to its ever growing tally when it won the Industrial Vehicles Category of this year’s BITA (British Industrial Truck Association) Design4Safety Awards. The company’s reputation for designing innovative products and features to enhance safety in the materials handling sector was underlined once again with the success of its patented multi- position tiller arm, which is a feature common to all its pedestrian models.
Martin McVicar, Combilift’s CEO and co-founder accepted the
trophy from BITA Secretary James Clark during this year’s Logistics awards which took place on 26th September. “We are very proud to be the winners of such an important award as safety is a crucial issue in our industry. Following the FLTA Safety award we received for the Combi-PPT earlier in the year, this highlights the fact that our product range is designed with the utmost safety in mind - not just for operators but for all employees who work with or in the vicinity of forklifts and industrial vehicles.”

74 OCTOBER 2019 | FACTORY&HANDLINGSOLUTIONS Combilift’s unique multi-position tiller enables push button
rotation of the rear wheel parallel to the chassis and back, allowing the operator to remain in the safest possible position when placing and picking in narrow aisles; at the side of the unit rather than behind it. This reduces the risk of the operator being crushed or trapped between the truck and racking and the excellent visibility reduces the risks of accidents involving other personnel.
Originally designed for the Combi-WR reach stacker, the
tiller arm is now incorporated on Combilift’s ever growing range of pedestrian models such as the multidirectional Combi-WR4, the Combi-CS counterbalance stacker and the Combi-PPT powered pallet truck.

Learn how a switch to robots could transform your competitiveness
ABB will be holding it next Switch to Robots seminar at its Milton Keynes training centre on 21st November, providing a step-by-step guide to introducing robotic automation to the factory floor. Starting with the question ‘how do you know if
you need a robot?’, the event will cover the key aspects of developing, specifying and financing a robotic installation. ABB will demonstrate how to develop the right solution for your needs, and how to calculate the potential return on investment that can be achieved in different types of applications. There will also be the opportunity to hear how an SME manufacturer has introduced robots to their
factory floor, plus the chance to get hands-on experience of operating a robot in ABB’s Robot Training Centre. To book your place, visit
