DHL supports Holland and Barrett online sales with Pop Up fulfillment centre

DHL Supply Chain has

supported Holland and Barrett with increased ecommerce

demand through its new Pop Up ecommerce fulfillment centre. The operation was set up by

DHL and Holland & Barrett in just 48 hours, after an initial surge in online orders as a result of the nationwide lockdown and a dramatic shift into categories not normally purchased online. In the days following the

lockdown, Holland and Barrett’s volumes doubled on a daily basis, outstripping the design capacity of the existing ecommerce

operation. As well as setting up a ‘fulfill from store” home delivery option, the new DHL facility in Crick, Northants has enabled the business to clear an order backlog and go on to process thousands of new orders every day.

SUPPORTING CRITICAL SECTORS THROUGH ONLINE LEARNING s part of a broader effort to support critical sectors at this time, steam systems specialist Spirax Sarco is running a series of free boilerhouse safety webinars for operators in critical sectors such as healthcare,

pharmaceuticals, food and beverage.

Many teams are under increased pressure to keep steam flowing, either to ensure a hospital is able to keep functioning or guaranteeing an efficient food production line. Consequently, it is likely they are reliant on support staff for assistance, who may require additional training.

Legislative requirements remain in force, meaning boilers still need to be operated within the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR 2000) Regulation 11 Operation, and in accordance with the Guidance on Safe Operation of Steam Boilers BG01.

Spirax Sarco’s online courses cover a number of critical safety pointers relating to current legislation, as well as the required testing regimes relating to chemical boiler treatment.

Training and knowledge sharing are fundamental to Spirax Sarco’s organisation both internally and externally, with safety being one of its five key company values. While the main focus of the business is currently on how it can help critical sectors and engineers, it has also experienced a surge in demand around online continued professional development (CPD) content for steam system designers and consultants. Similarly, the business has seen a significant increase in employees taking up online courses across its own internal academy training system.

Sally O’Connell is the Training Centre Manager at Spirax Sarco UK, and says: “We are finding that people are just wanting to expand their knowledge throughout the industry right now, whatever their job role is.

“Front line engineers want to be able to respond effectively to boilerhouse alarms and specifiers want to upskill to safeguard systems in the future. We are huge advocates of learning and development and it’s certainly at the heart of everything we’re doing right now. During such testing times it’s important that industries focus on supporting one another and that’s definitely the role we want to play for our customers.”

HONEYWELL EXPANDS FACE MASK PRODUCTION IN EUROPE WITH NEW MANUFACTURING LINE IN THE UK oneywell announced that it will build a new production line capable of producing up to 4.5 million

FFP2 and FFP3 disposable face masks per month at its Newhouse site in Scotland, United Kingdom. These masks will assist the U.K. government’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The U.K. government has ordered 70 million of the locally produced Honeywell SuperOne face masks, with production expected to start as early as July. The masks will be distributed by the Department of Health and Social Care to the U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS) and social care settings to protect frontline workers. The new mask production line is expected to create approximately 450 jobs at Honeywell’s Newhouse site. “As a global leader of high quality personal protective equipment, Honeywell is committed to getting safety gear to those who need it most, including workers on the front line of the fight against COVID-19,” said Will Lange, president of Honeywell’s personal protective equipment business. “Our Newhouse facility has both the physical capacity and technical capabilities to launch a large-scale respirator production line in such a short timeframe. We are proud of our teams who are bringing new manufacturing capabilities to the United Kingdom as quickly as possible to support the country’s response to the pandemic.”

This is the third new face mask production line Honeywell has announced in the last two months. The company started two new manufacturing lines in the United States for the North American market.

Honeywell’s Newhouse plant specialises in electronic systems assembly and testing and other advanced manufacturing capabilities for several of Honeywell’s business groups, and will continue to do so alongside the new face mask line.

“These 70 million masks are the result of our challenge to U.K. industry to scale-up domestic PPE manufacturing,” said Matt Hancock, Health Secretary, U.K. government. “This deal is brilliant news for the whole United Kingdom, which will not only deliver the masks we need but create around 450 jobs in Newhouse, Scotland. I’m delighted to team up with Honeywell to open up another avenue to get millions of masks to the

Honeywell will supply the 70 million face masks from Newhouse to the U.K. government over an 18-month timeframe.
