ANALYSIS: SMART APPLIANCES Home Appliances

“This is a smart washing experience,” the brand says. “For example, by taking a photo of the loaded racks, users can get advice about the appropriate dishware positioning in the washer. So there’s no excuse for plates or utensils to come out dirty!” Elsewhere, as part of its Connected Smart Living range, Igenix also has a dedicated app and allows voice control when synced with Alexa. Google Assistant is also able to control certain products too. The company says the range has been driven by the ever-evolving needs of customers and continuous product development to help meet the demands of everyday life. Extra features on the app include, for example on the Igenix Smart Air Purifier, data collection – so users can access graphs detailing air quality over time, to give insight into pollutants affecting indoor air quality.
The pinnacle of convenience LG is no stranger to connected home appliances either. “Smart technology is meant to elevate your home appliances to being the pinnacle of convenience; this market will continue to develop rapidly – and LG will continue to be at the forefront,” remarks David Palmer, Senior Product Specialist Home Appliances. “LG has long been a champion for connected appliances and has been bringing smart technologies to kitchen and cooling products for the last decade. We have been at the forefront of AI and AI-integrated appliances which are designed to make usage seamless and convenient for the consumer.” Mr Palmer adds: “We continue to listen to our customers, and will respond to changes in consumer behaviour and demands when delivering future product ranges.” The brand’s smart platform, ThinQ – compatible with any smartphone as well as Alexa and Apple’s Siri, offers smart control that’s not only limited to its latest fridge-freezers, such as the ever-popular InstaView American Style Fridge Freezer, but also washing machines. In addition, Smart Learner allows remote access and provides push notifications to the user’s phone. It also modifies the appliance’s behaviour based on customer usage; by proactively cooling and dropping products into low power mode, energy usage is reduced, helping to save on running costs.

The new Bespoke Jet AI Vacuum Cleaner from Samsung
Something else that also modifies its behaviour – Samsung’s new Bespoke Jet AI. Launched only last month,
this AI-powered
cordless stick vacuum will determine floor types in order to optimise its cleaning and maintain battery efficiency. With AI Cleaning Mode, the Jet AI will first detect the brush load it has encountered through its suction motion controller, as well as the air pressure through its pressure sensors. This data will then be analysed in order to classify the floor type, and the resulting algorithm will be automatically applied in order to provide the optimal suction power and brushroll speed.
Sounds rather scientific! But the end
result is improved battery consumption and manoeuvrability around the home. In addition, SmartThings and Smart Wi-Fi connectivity let users maintain performance through the self- diagnosis function. “The Bespoke Jet AI is designed for every lifestyle,” says Junwha Lee from Samsung Electronics. “We are delivering an intelligent cordless stick vacuum that empowers users to undertake their lifestyles in premium fashion.” So there you go, not only can we be more
efficient with our household chores, but now we can look good while we’re doing them!
