ANALYSIS: SMART APPLIANCES Home Appliances

Kitchens are getting cleverer 32

There’s a huge demand for smart, connected home appliances in today’s modern kitchens, so how can retailers turn trend-setting technology into store sales? Jack Cheeseman finds out.

O

ver the years, the way we live has completely shifted, with many people being even more reliant on their appliances now. So choosing products with smart

capabilities to support a household’s needs is increasingly important. Consumers need their homes and the technology within them to work a bit harder and people are willing to invest more in appliances with more innovative features that will help make life that bit easier. What’s more, as energy prices continue to rise it’s fundamental for consumers to find a product that is going to maximise their savings through energy-efficient technologies.

In addition, maintenance gets easier than ever thanks again to the hOn app (the platform that allows for the management of all Haier Europe appliances – pictured right), which will warn users about the status of the appliance, and they’ll be able to check whether the water tank needs to be emptied or not.

Miele provides similar support with its Miele@home system, where appliances can be networked conveniently and securely, even integrating to existing Smart Home solutions such as Amazon Alexa. And there’s Miele@ Mobile for maintaining the cleanliness of appliances, particularly washing machines and dishwashers. Tom Hopper, Kitchens Manager at Miele GB, says that consumers can use these apps to engage various features, including changing
