“Miele@Mobile uses push notifications
to remind consumers via the app when the appliances are ready for a hygiene clean. Running this programme ensures the inside of the machine is kept in pristine condition for outstanding cleaning.” Mr Hopper adds: “We expect there will be a continued focus on sustainability in the market, both in terms of energy efficiency and reducing food waste over the next few years. Connected appliances will continue to be the focus in any new product innovation coming through, and we’ll see increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and a general shift towards automated processes across all sectors.”
Not quite the norm BSH’s smart home partner, Home Connect, also enables users to control their appliances using their voice, as well as via an app on their phone or tablet. The platform was launched in 2016 and while many consumers are on board with it – and likely all the other brand’s app systems too – BSH’s Head of Connect Home, James Kington, believes we are still a little way off app control being the norm for everybody… “Many people believe these smart products
are complex to set up, which is not the case. To simplify the process for consumers, BSH provides lots of information on our websites and in the app. For example, when pairing a dishwasher, we take you through the process step-by-step and provide messages to guide you. “Once paired, we give information on setting up the dishwasher perfectly, including hard water
settings for longevity and efficiency. The process used to take about five minutes, but now it takes less than two. Our goal is to provide a simple and rewarding experience for users.” Mr Kington tells ERT about the launch of Matter – a new global, open-source standard that aims to simplify the smart home ecosystem [also discussed in this month’s ERT Interview with Amit Ravat, pages 14-16]. “The future of smart lies in home management, specifically in managing the kitchen and ensuring that various appliances and devices work together seamlessly,” he adds. “This unification will make consumers’ lives easier, more convenient, and more enjoyable.”
their food is always fresh, simply by adjusting the fridge’s temperature settings from wherever you are using the app. “You can pretty much do everything from your phone, so don’t let it stop when it comes to your home appliances,” exclaims Product Marketing Manager for Hisense UK, Matthew Glynn. “The popularity
of appliances has increased rapidly over
these smart home the
years and is predicted to continue,” he says. “With no surprise, Wi-Fi connected appliances make household chores effortless and help save time, reduce waste and keep households running smoothly. Having everything within one app makes things really simple too.”
Hisense ConnectLife Smart App 33
The Bosch Series 8 (pictured above), the NEFF N70 and the Siemens SN87Y801BE fully-integrated dishwashers can be cleverly controlled using Home Connect; the app allows users to switch on the appliance remotely or even link it to Smart Finish – where dishwasher tablets are automatically ordered when stocks are running low. Another benefit, and quite a novel selling point that may make your customers’ ears prick up, is that the app provides additional programs for consumers to download. This means that even those who have purchased an entry-level model can access five additional programs that they would not have had otherwise.
Take control Hisense’s Wi-Fi enabled products feed into an app called ‘ConnectLife’, which ensures complete control over the user’s appliances from anywhere, at any time. Take the Hisense HS693 dishwasher – it
provides a range of benefits like being able to check the status of the wash cycle, sending an alert when it’s completed and when the detergent is low and requires filling. Or the RS818 refrigerator, where users can ensure
current
Mr Glynn explains that while the brand’s smart
categories only include
dishwashers and refrigerators, there are plans in the pipeline to expand into both the laundry and cooking categories. Watch this space! Talking of new product launches, earlier this year Candy introduced its Rapido dishwasher –packed with connectivity functions that can be activated through the hOn app. With one touch, users can obtain smart suggestions, special features and can access the appliance remotely. There’s also access to new features within Candy’s popular function, Snap&Wash. >>
