LEM celebrates 50 years in electrical measurement
LEM, one of the leaders in electrical measurement, is celebrating 50 years of supplying sensors and solutions to such sectors as renewables, automotive, railway and traction, charging infrastructures, energy distribution and automation.
With a strong focus on digitisation and
mobility, these industries took delivery of 66 million electrical sensors from LEM in 2021/22 in their drive towards a sustainable future. The company used the electronica 2022
show to emphasise its global presence across 15 countries and its significant investment in R&D to create the best sensors on the market. Electronics design engineers and system design
engineers visiting LEM’s booth witnessed the company’s vast range of PCB-mounted current sensors. The brand also launched seven new products in 21/22, including the HOB-P high bandwidth current sensor developed specifically for fast-switching SiC MOSFETs in high voltage, pulsed power circuits. Andreas Hürlimann, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Rehfeld, say: “All of us at LEM are inspired by a common purpose – helping our customers and society accelerate the transition to a sustainable future. We have come a long way since 1972 and we remain as enthusiastic as ever regarding LEM’s prospects for the next 50 years!”

Economic climate holding back sustainability strategy for 7 in 10 manufacturers
Almost seven in 10 manufacturing decision makers agree that their sustainability strategy has been restricted due to cost pressures. This is according to research findings by Visual Components, polling respondents in the UK, US, Germany and France.
The stalling of progress in green initiatives is
also revealed by 72 per cent of respondents, saying that less than half of the materials used in the manufacturing process are sustainable, while an even higher percentage (79 per cent) state that less than half is currently powered by renewable energy. There is also room for improvement when it comes to progress in sustainable initiatives, with less than half of organisations focusing on waste reduction, improving efficiency (43 per cent) and a reduction in power usage (29 per cent), with the latter most likely driven by rising energy costs. This is despite confidence among decision

makers that their business will play a role in the global drive for net zero carbon emissions (71 per cent).
Rising economic pressure will likely extend
beyond impacting sustainability and also push organisations towards a reshoring strategy. In fact, almost four in 10 are planning to bring their operations back to their original country, with increased costs associated with maintaining operations across several countries and transporting goods across long distances likely to be playing a role.
“The challenging economic climate is presenting a blocker to green strategies for many manufacturers,” said Mikko Urho, CEO at Visual Components. “However, decision makers can’t put sustainability on the backburner, with net zero targets and employee demand dictating its importance.”
temperature, power and process control, measurement and data management equipment, systems, software and services for global industrial markets. The company’s headquarters are in Worthing, UK, with core manufacturing operations in Lędziny, Poland, and headcount of about 650 people worldwide. “Watlow is excited to invest in this
innovative product portfolio and professional team,” said Rob Gilmore, Watlow’s CEO. “Combining Eurotherm’s complementary controls technologies with Watlow’s focus on thermal systems, our shared engineer- to-engineer sales models and our focus on common markets will allow Watlow and Eurotherm to better serve all of our respective customers. “Watlow is investing aggressively right now, including development of our operations in Europe and Asia to ensure we can support and respond to our customers wherever they need us. This acquisition will help us expand our presence in Europe and extend our electronics and controls capabilities globally.”
