FEATURE  Pumps & Pumping Systems

Improving the water fl ow of single tap units

Mike Oxley, Training Manager at Salamander

Pumps, explains the benefi ts of its newest product TapBoost and how it can boost the water fl ow of single, poor performing outlets.

P

oor performing taps can be a nuisance for homeowners, especially frequently used outlets such as the kitchen or

bathroom tap when the water fl ow is low. But when there is just one outlet that is proving troublesome, installing a whole house pump to improve the water performance can feel a bit excessive and may be an unnecessary expense for the homeowner. Manufactured in Sunderland, TapBoost is designed to be a cost-effective solution to improving the water fl ow of a single tap or outlet up to a maximum of seven to 11 litres per minute (L/min) depending on the incoming fl ow rates. It fi lls a gap in the market for when there is just one troublesome tap where water performance requires improvement, but where a whole-house solution, such as an accumulator tank, may feel like an overkill.

CAUSES OF POOR PERFORMING OUTLETS Poor performing taps and outlets are a problem many households face and there are many reasons as to why they may not be performing the way they should. A blocked tap aerator, or kinked fl exible tap connection, can directly impact the performance from an outlet. It’s important to remember that any alterations to pipework or new outlets within a property can impact the water performance across the whole house too.

IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE Salamander Pumps’ newest product provides a simple solution to boosting the water fl ow

of a single outlet, thanks to its compact, in-line design, complete with robust brass fi ttings, TapBoost attaches directly to the pipework allowing for an easy installation to any outlet that requires a boost. The pump is suitable for an array of outlets throughout the house and can be fi tted to improve the water fl ow of bath taps, kitchen taps, toilet cisterns, dishwashers, washing machines, toilet cisterns and even garden taps. However, in order to activate the TapBoost pump, there must be a natural fl ow of at least 1.2 L/min at the outlet. Thanks to recent innovations in the industry, installers now have an easy and economical

solution for single taps suffering with poor water fl ow. As TapBoost is installed at the point of the outlet, this makes the pump suitable for any plumbing system. However, for unvented systems, these pumps should only be installed onto cold outlets. TapBoost has been designed to boost the

water fl ow to 7-11 L/min, depending on the level of existing fl ow.

A SOLUTION FOR MORE THAN ONE OUTLET In theory, multiple TapBoost pumps could be installed at various locations in the home to improve the water fl ow of multiple outlets, but if poor water performance is an issue throughout a property, it would be more cost effective to install a whole-house solution. The ideal solution will vary according to

multiple factors in the home, one being the plumbing system. Unlike TapBoost, there are various solutions

that are available to boost the water fl ow throughout the home. Larger inline pumps and accumulator tanks are designed for different plumbing systems and can be installed to improve the water performance of multiple outlets in the home, delivering water fl ow of up to 36 L/min. No matter the number of problem points

there are in the home, the home’s plumbing system, or the size of the home, there are solutions readily available to boost water fl ow where necessary.
