electronics industry awards supplement 2018

Congratulations from BWW Communications

Nick Foot, director, BWW Communications tells us more about the company and the clients they represent and what they are doing to support the Electronics Industry Awards

B You’ve all done very well!

WW Communications is delighted to sponsor the Electronics Industry Awards’ special ‘Industry Personality’ category which recognises an individual who has made a significant contribution to our industry.

Looking through the nominees, although they operate in very different roles, each one would be deserving of the honour.

As a global, full-service marketing communications agency specialising in

electronics, our contribution is best expressed by the quality and excellence of our clients, several of whom appear on the shortlists for the Electronics Industry Awards. Therefore, we dedicate the rest of this page to recent highlights from companies we are honoured to represent. Lattice Semiconductor recently introduced Lattice sensAI – a complete technology stack combining modular hardware kits, neural network IP cores, software tools, reference designs and custom design services – to accelerate integration of machine learning inferencing into broad market IoT applications. With solutions optimised for ultra-low power consumption (under 1 mW–1 W), small package size (5.5 mm² –100 mm²), interface flexibility (MIPI CSI-2, LVDS, GigE, etc.), and high-volume pricing, Lattice sensAI stack fast-tracks implementation of edge computing close to the source of data.

Ledtech, one of the world’s largest capacity LED manufacturers, has announced the opening of a European facility in the UK. The addition of a direct facility adds a range of value-added manufacturing services, design-in support, volume availability and security of supply on a wide range of opto parts including discrete LEDs, LED displays, lighting components and luminaires. Additionally, later this year, the company will install a full LED production line in the UK facility. Leading NPI distributor, Mouser has

already added over 25 new franchises this year, and supports the design ecosystem with industry’s widest range of development tools that are available off the shelf. The company’s Empowering Innovation video series featuring Grant Imahara, this year is focusing on robotics. Nexperia’s AEC-Q101 Trench 9, 40 V automotive superjunction MOSFETs are industry’s lowest RDS(on) automotive- qualified MOSFETs. The rugged, electrically- and thermally-efficient LFPAK56E-packaged devices deliver a footprint reduction of up to 81 per cent when compared to traditional solutions such as bare die modules, D2PAK or D2PAK-7 devices. The 0.9 mΩ, 220 A DC-rated BUK9J0R9-40H MOSFET suits applications up to 1.2 kW, and is also lower cost than larger D2PAK devices which were the previous best solution. Panasonic’s sensor, resistor and relay products used in the winning 2018

pod from the WARR Hyperloop team played an essential role in achieving the team’s goals of miniaturisation and increased efficiency. Red Pitaya’s STEMlab, a low cost, open-source, reconfigurable, credit-card- sized instrumentation platform, is being used by a consortium including members from a major European research organisation, academia and industry to perform waveform synthesis, IF signal sampling and signal processing on a new radar warning and information system for applications in disaster management. Hylec-APL’s TLM series of shock-resistant, screwless, space-saving PCB terminal blocks require no special tools, ensuring fast connection for wire sizes between 0.05mm² and 8.37mm².

LMD’s V-Sensor and App integrated with next-generation smartphones will assist diagnosis by physicians and drive growth in remote medical consultation services by enabling patients to self-measure their own vital signs with medical accuracy for online appointments with doctors The 1.27 mm pitch EMM series connector from Nicomatic is designed to meet the performance requirements of MIL 83513, yet is 20 per cent smaller than Micro D connectors for 16-pin configurations and around 10 per cent smaller in footprint than the closest industry competitor. A new high brightness purple surface-mount LED lamp features manufacturer OMC’s proprietary Active Diffuser Technology, which produces a far richer and more efficient output than traditional single- wavelength devices. This makes it ideal for applications such as backlighting, mood-lighting, displays and status indication, as well as signalling and industrial electronics. Pebble from On-Systems is a new COTS, rugged, EMI-silent laptop power supply for defence, avionics and mobile applications that is a fraction of the size, weight and cost of current designs. Pebble is the first in a series of harsh-environment PSUs from the company which combine a new topology, custom-designed FET drivers and fast switching speed to deliver industry-changing benefits. VeriSafe from Panduit is designed to minimise risk to electrical hazards by verifying the absence of voltage before equipment is accessed, making it easier for qualified electrical workers to determine an electrically safe environment in a fraction of the time compared to hand-held portable test instruments. Industry’s smallest reed relay, the Series 124 is part of Pickering’s new ultra-high density 4mm2 reed relay range product line, which takes up the minimum board area of only 4mm x 4mm, allowing the highest packing density possible.

Members of Power Integrations’ SCALE-iDriver gate-driver IC family are now certified to AEC-Q100 Grade Level 1 for automotive use and are suitable for driving 650 V, 750 V and 1200 V automotive IGBT and SiC- MOSFET modules. Transonics is the first UK company to sign a distribution agreement with

China’s leading relay supplier and manufacturer, Hongfa. Now, the company holds the largest stocks of Hongfa relays in the country, right across their entire product range.

TTI, Inc., the world leading specialist distributor of electronic components, now offers a new high-density, long-distance Panasonic PIR Motion Sensor (PaPIR).
