BLFT liquid flow turbine gets saucy! B
ell Flow Systems were recently approached by a well-known curry sauce producer from the UK to provide accurate and repeatable batch-control
systems for measuring the water volumes used in their supermarket sauce recipes. The client’s requirements meant that the system would be used for a variety of
different recipes, so the batch controller had to be easy to use and able to be reprogrammed for varying volumes. For this application Bell Flow Systems selected the BLFT stainless steel turbine

flow meter, combined with a Fluidwell- F130 batch controller. A fast acting solenoid valve was also incorporated into the process so that dispensed volumes could be quickly controlled, providing the highest level of accuracy and performance. The F130 LCD Batch controller was connected to the signal output from the
BLFT to provide the operator with a volumetric countdown on-screen of the required batch volume. Internal control relays actuated the solenoid valve once the desired batch volume had been met, utilising automatic over-run compensation to achieve repeatability.

an you really detect such an object from that far away without a reflector? Any colour? Against a shiny background? And measure the distance, too? The answer to
these questions is “yes – if you use the new OGD LongRange from ifm electronic”. Conveying systems these days are more than just box
movers; sorting and collation take many forms and lead to huge complexity, so detection of the goods needs to be more accurate than before, but also there is less space to fit sensors. And there’s nothing more annoying than an inaccessible reflector knocked out of alignment.
The remarkable OGD LongRange photoelectric sensor from
ifm electronic addresses the pain with a detection range of 1500mm, with no reflector but with no danger of detecting the background either.

The new single-arm YuMi is ABB’s most agile and compact collaborative robot yet and can easily integrate into existing production
A
BB expanded its collaborative automation
offering with the launch of a new single-arm YuMi robot at automatica 2018 in Munich. The IRB 14050 single-arm YuMi is ABB’s most agile and compact robot and is designed to easily fit into existing production lines to increase flexibility while working safely alongside people.
The new collaborative robot is one of the first of a new generation of
robots from ABB to be built on a flexible new modular design platform that will allow a greater variety of robots and sizes, and more tailored solutions. Weighing less than 10kg, and capable of being mounted from a ceiling,
table and wall, this new addition to the YuMi family offers increased flexibility to help meet high-mix, low volume production in short cycles. Easy to install, the single-arm YuMi allows manufacturers to quickly and easily add collaborative applications to their production lines with minimal interruption to existing operations. The launch of the single-arm YuMi expands ABB’s collaborative robot
offering started in 2015 with the dual-arm YuMi, the world's first truly collaborative robot. As part of the connected “Factory of the Future”, the YuMi family heralds a new era of robotic co-workers which can work side-by- side on the same tasks as humans while still ensuring the safety of those around them. “The new single-arm YuMi continues our innovation in collaborative
automation, helping make our already leading portfolio even more flexible,” says Per Vegard Nerseth, Managing Director of Robotics at ABB. “It offers added flexibility and scalability to manufacturers of all sizes, helping to meet their current challenges and anticipating future ones.”
