Travis Perkins and Toolstation join forces for charity
Toolstation has joined forces with its sister company, Travis Perkins to support social enterprise Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) to help transform Centrepoint in Cricklewood, North London. Centrepoint is a renowned charitable organisation dedicated to providing homeless young people with essential services, including accommodation, health support, and life skills, to help them reintegrate into education, training, and employment.
This ambitious project includes the meticulous repair

of existing kitchen units, the replacement and re-grouting of tiles, and the addition of practical elements including breakfast bars and extra storage shelving, all to create more inspiring kitchen areas to help rebuild healthier lives. In addition, the project includes a comprehensive painting effort to refresh and rejuvenate the walls, skirting, architraves, and doors that have seen plenty of wear and tear over the years. The initiative is helping more young people learn DIY skills and to consider a career in the construction and building
industry, whilst renovating a space they use and benefit from. Toolstation is funding and helping the volunteers gain City & Guilds qualifications as part of its partnership with VIY. The project saw 15 young volunteers between the ages of 14-21 collectively pledge up to 18 days work on the project, with all participants being awarded a City & Guilds accreditation in Carpentry and/ or Painting & Decorating. Over the course of three days, 10 colleagues from Toolstation and Dulux also volunteered to help redecorate the centre.
Get on board with this autumn’s hottest interior trend
Upcycling is going to be the interior trend of the autumn, according to new research from wood paint specialists Thorndown.
Using Pinterest
Trends, the eco experts have found that the search term ‘upcycled
furniture’ has soared in September, leaping from 29 index points to 100 (the highest) in just a week. Caroline Thornborough, Design Director at Thorndown, said: “As we head into another winter, worries about the cost of living are at the fore. That, combined with a rising interest in sustainability, is driving people to get more creative and give upcycling a go.” Thorndown’s wood paint is ideal for revamping tired, dated pieces.
It adheres really well to bare wood or previously painted surfaces, so there’s normally no need for a primer. Plus, because it’s water-based, it is low in odour and ideal for using in sprayers.
Works have started on a brand new £10 million Aberdeen store for national improvements giant Wickes. Knight Property Group has commenced on site with the construction of the store, to be based at Phase 3 of Kingshill Park, at Westhill in Aberdeen. Planning consent was granted on the three-acre site by Aberdeenshire Council in March this year.
When complete, the new
store will bring around 25 new jobs to the local economy and will see Wickes make a welcome return to the Granite City.
Knight has agreed a 20-year lease with Wickes and has appointed Clark Contracts as the main contractor to deliver the 25,000 sq ft bespoke store, which will also include 79 parking spaces and an outdoor projects centre for landscape and garden projects to the rear of the store. The construction process will take around six months, with completion scheduled for Q2 2024.

LANDSCAPE show postponed
The organisers of the LANDSCAPE show have taken the difficult decision to postpone this year’s event that was scheduled to take place in September. The LANDSCAPE event director Jeremy Storey-Walker has written to all stakeholders informing them that after extensive consideration, they have decided to postpone the show. The organisers hope that rescheduling the event to spring 2024 will enable them to gain new exhibitors who would have otherwise not have been able to participate this September. They intend to transfer all planned features and events, such as the popular SGD Soirée and the Student Discovery Day to the new dates. This decision has not been taken lightly and the organisers understand the inconvenience it may cause to all those who had been looking forward to the event. “We believe it is essential to take a step back at this moment
in order to deliver our exhibitors and visitors the event we have promised,” said Storey-Walker.
