Plenty to look forward to
This month we have once again had a major focus on the upcoming DIY Week Awards, including a busy supplier category judging day. It’s always great to catch up with our panel of industry experts, as discussions often stray away from the core topic and into general chats about business and the industry. Despite the current domestic economic challenges and global geopolitical issues and uncertainly, the good news is everyone was feeling positive about the first quarter of this year and have high hopes for the rest of the year ahead. On the awards, we’ve received a good number of interesting entries in all categories this year, which is great to see. As usual, these promoted plenty of lively debate amongst the judging panel, but we eventually settled on the shortlists that will be published in the next issue, with the winners announced and trophies presented at the live event awards event taking place on Friday 23 May at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. There are still tickets available, so for more details please visit the website at
www.diyweekawards.co.uk. Taking place on the morning of the awards event is our brand new Trade Talks conference. We have an exceptional line- up of speakers from some major industry players lined-up for this and you can find out more, including where to register to attend, on page 9 of this issue with more details to follow soon. You’ll also find the spring issue of Garden Centre Update in this month’s copy, which includes features on some key
garden industry topics, including power tools, growing your own, landscaping and pest control. There’s also industry comment from the Garden Centre Association (GCA), whose members’ latest Barometer of Trade (BoT) figures show a positive end to last year and good start to this one, which is good news all round.
