Anti-Mould
Grout and Colour-Lock, a premium product which is available in a choice of 12 different colours, unaffected by efflorescence or shade variation. Meanwhile the range also includes ‘Langlow by Palace’, now repackaged to complement the rest of the Palace product line-up and includes innovative DIY products such as Fix’n’Grout in a tube, which can be used as either a wall tile adhesive or a tile joint grout. In recognition of its innovation, Langlow Ready Mixed All Purpose Filler was shortlisted in the DIY Week Awards in 2024 in the Decorating Product of the Year Category.
Palace is constantly alive to changes in the market, and it has seen plenty over the decades. A current ongoing development is the continuing fashion for large format tiles, which has led to a requirement for more powdered adhesive, rather than ready-mix. Following major investment in recent years, Palace has almost certainly the most responsive and flexible manufacturing lines anywhere in the industry. This means it is always ready to meet customer requirements, however frequently they change. Delays caused by periods of downtime, whenever there is a product change on the line are simply not a factor at Palace Chemicals.
High quality manufacturing is at the core of the Palace product offer, and this is overseen by an experienced technical team. Consistent investment enables the company to remain at the top of its game in terms of manufacturing flexibility, efficiency and environmentally friendly manufacturing. Consistency is further ensured by one of the industry’s longest serving and most experienced technical teams, enhanced by an experienced customer-focused Quality Manager who is a key member of the production team.
Manufacturing excellence involves paying close attention to sustainability. Last year, the company installed more than 840 solar panels at its premises. These now supply the majority of the energy required for the company’s production processes, while the remainder comes from a renewable energy source. The installation of a closed loop dust extraction system, which eliminates airborne dust emissions also helps the company move towards its goal of zero waste to landfill. The team continually searches for ways to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and create superior manufacturing systems and better working conditions. A lot of attention has been paid to improving the sustainability of the company’s product packaging. Ten years ago, 70% of its packaging was plastic-based. This is now less than 35%, and more than 75% of the plastic currently used is made from recycled sources.

The use of recycled plastic in buckets means that ready mixed adhesives are now a low carbon option, particularly since the used containers are themselves reusable or recyclable. Latest new product development includes using raw materials which have a lower carbon footprint than cement-based alternatives. This presents further opportunities for developing low carbon adhesive solutions in the future.
The company holds a number of independent accreditations. These include the Quality Management System (ISO 9001), the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and also the Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001). This high level of accreditation provides the reassurance required by even the most demanding customers in the DIY sector. With its 50th anniversary looming, Palace is now looking forward to celebrating 50 years of British manufacturing in 2028. But this is going to be far from a passive celebration – the company in fact has a target to hit a turnover of £50m by that date. Given its success up to now, there surely will not be many people who will say that the Palace team will not be able to achieve this goal!
