FEATURE: MADE IN BRITAIN

DRAYTON CELEBRATES 75 YEARS OF BRITISH MANUFACTURING

Drayton, one of the UK’s leading heating controls manufacturers, continues to celebrate its 75th year in business with a host of sustainability milestones, and by securing ‘Made in Britain’ accreditation.

A

s 2025 begins, Drayton is celebrating its recent ‘Made in Britain’ accreditation. The

Drayton factory in Plymouth is where the iconic TRV4, motorised values and other well-loved heating controls roll off the lines, all of which will feature the Made in Britain label. The Made in Britain Registered Trademark is designed to help consumers, buyers, specifiers, and in Drayton’s case, installers, identify products made in the UK.

Alongside this accreditation, Schneider Electric, Drayton’s parent company, has been awarded for its stellar sustainability credentials, winning Most Sustainable Company of 2024, as named by TIME and Statista. The

win saw the company pip the likes of NEC Corp, Siemens, PayPal, HP and Microsoft to the post. As part of Schneider’s global network of sustainable businesses, Drayton has placed great focus on creating sustainable manufacturing and operations at its Plymouth site, which has operated as Zero to Landfill, going over and above IOS14001, for the past nine years. As evidenced since 2017,

effective energy management has reduced the carbon footprint of the Plymouth factory from over 600 tones to just under 50. This has been achieved through the purchase of 100% green energy, efficient gas heating and various other energy efficiency projects. This includes the introduction of a new variable-output air compressor and smart energy monitoring via EcoStruxure.

Additionally, the heating

controls manufacturer continues to run Single Use Plastic initiatives, sourcing more

sustainable

alternatives for the production and packaging of its popular products. Jeremy Palmer, general manager, at Drayton, says: “Celebrating our 75th year with these significant milestones further establishes Drayton’s commitment to innovation. From reducing our carbon footprint to achieving our prestigious Made in Britain accreditation, we are so proud to be leading the way in sustainable manufacturing, and hopefully empowering households to become more

energy efficient

along the way too. “With that, we want to say a big thank you to all the installers and customers that have supported us over the years.”

TIMELESS CLASSICS DOMINATE BEST-SELLING PAINT COLOURS OF 2024

Heritage colours are in, according to new research from British eco paint brand Thorndown. Analysis of sales of its 2.5-litre tins of exterior wood and interior wall paint show classic shades dominated in 2024. Wood paint sales were topped by Old Sage Green, an elegant silvery grey green colour that has an ageless feel, whereas Whey White – a buttery cream hue – was the best-selling wall paint. Heritage tones, those inspired by period properties and landmarks,

greys are among Thorndown’s best- sellers. Caroline Thornborough, design

director of Thorndown, says: “The classic, timeless feel of heritage tones offers a sense of stability. As we continue to navigate through turbulent times, these tones bring comfort.”

are typically more subdued than modern colour palettes. Earthy greens, brooding blues and warm

The top four best-selling wall paint shades were among the top 20 best-selling wood paint shades, with a further two colours also making both lists. Thornborough says: “It’s really

interesting to see so much correlation between our wood and wall paint best-sellers. “Homeowners are increasingly seeing their gardens, patios and balconies as an extension of their living space so it’s no surprise to see their interior decor influencing their design decisions in the garden too.”
