RANGE REVIEW: PEST CONTROL
T
he lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 saw a marked increase in demand for rodent control products and more
than a 70% increase in sightings. Because we all spent more time at home during the day, there was more opportunity to observe rats and mice going about their daily business. Pubs and restaurants were closed, so there was less rubbish and litter – and the rodents seemed to move into people’s homes and gardens in search of alternative sources of food. Since then, the team at STV have seen no sign of reduction in demand from consumers seeking DIY pest control solutions. Buying habits have changed, however, with more people looking for poison-free products. That’s what is driving STV’s new product innovation programme with more than 86% of their products now entirely poison-free.
Non-lethal trend There’s also a notable trend towards non-lethal ways of controlling pests. STV estimate that there were more than 10 million uses of pest control products last year and 67% of those were non-lethal methods. They also report an increase in consumers seeking ways to control larger animals and birds in their gardens.

The Big Cheese mobile showroom PEST CONTROL EMERGING TRENDS IN
The pest control experts at STV International discuss the latest trends in this growing segment and offer retailers advice on which products to stock in order to satisfy increased consumer demand.
STV have developed a new vertebrate control range of products to respond to this emerging trend, making it easy to find welfare-friendly ways of eliminating unwelcome birds and mammals – including pigeons, cats, dogs, foxes and rabbits – from the garden.
STV have many years of experience of the pest control category, and
recognise that retailers don’t always have the time or opportunity to review market information in detail or keep up with the latest consumer demands. So, their ‘Top100’ clearly defines the top selling lines to ensure the optimum range is always available to meet consumer needs. The complete range together with their ‘The Big Cheese – Problem Solved stand’ unique merchandising concept and integrated web store is now available in their mobile showroom which will be visiting retailers all across the UK in the coming weeks.
