A look at how to make your customer’s journey easier online by offerinf flexible payment options

“Remaining focused on your brief and vision will pay dividends”

Founded in 1874

I know many of you are probably happy to see the back of Christmas, having just cleared any leftover stock and packed away the decorations but I’m afraid we are eking out the festive cheer for a bit longer to get you thinking about 2018. We’ve been busy traipsing the aisles of shows like Christmasworld and Spring Fair to help you get ahead of the biggest trends for the festive season and start planning your ranges and in-store displays. With 60% of online respondents telling us they start buying their Christmas ranges between January and May, we wanted to make sure you are armed with the inspiration you need to ensure – whether you just dabble in the category, or it is a big part of your business – that your offer hits the mark and keeps the tills ringing this year. Retail consultants Arte Perfectum gave some great advice about conceptual presentation and

the journey from purchase to display, with strategies and tips that could apply to any season. A great piece of advice from the duo was that, when you’re buying, it pays to think carefully about your plans and buy only what you can display and store later on. It also helps to have in mind what you will need to display those lines as part of your themed showcase. It seems like very obvious advice – and I’m not trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs – but I can imagine how overwhelming it can be to be faced with endless halls of products and exciting lines you’d love to stock, leading some buyers to get carried away and lose sight of their target customer or end up with an un-coordinated range. I came to the conclusion that I would have ended up buying a mismatched offer of things that I loved, getting my quantities wrong or having no plan for everything once it all arrived. But, from some of the retail examples I’ve seen presented at trade shows and the recent GCA conference, remaining focused on your brief and vision, and some serious forward planning will pay dividends and create a striking and consistent look that will get shoppers talking. And it’s not just about Christmas; as I mentioned before, the strategies and principles some of our experts in this issue put forward would work across a number of seasons and categories. Hopefully there will be something for everyone to take away and get you thinking.
