Mary Portas, one of the country’s foremost experts on the retail industry, will be delivering a keynote speech on Monday, February 6 to discuss the challenges facing retailers in 2017 and beyond. With Brexit negotiations looming, independent retailers – as well as those representing larger stores – in attendance will be given her take on what lies ahead for retail on a national and international level. Entitled ‘The Future of Shopping’, her thought-provoking talk will also
explore the digital revolution and how different retail sectors are responding to their changing environments. Following her speech, Ms Portas will participate in an interactive Q&A session, giving the audience a unique opportunity to spend time with and learn from Britain’s leading retail expert. Recently seen presenting her new TV show, What Britain Earns with Mary Portas, she has been dubbed the ‘Queen of Shops’. Having started her career at John Lewis, Harrods and Topshop, Portas went on to launch a hugely successful creative agency – advising the likes of Clarks, Louis Vuitton, Oasis, and Thomas Pink – before becoming a TV personality. Highlighting her influence on the UK retail industry, in 2011 she was commissioned by the government to produce a report on the future of the high street. The Portas Review outlined 28 recommendations to rescue

failing stores and has been widely cited as being the catalyst of change across the country. With 14 show sectors covering the entire gifting and homewares market, Ms Portas is just one part of a comprehensive programme at Spring Fair 2017 – an event that prides itself on offering something for everyone. The event organiser has already confirmed that Mette Downer, the CEO of The Great Gift Company, will talk about ‘Staying ahead online’ and how retailers can better understand their market and talk to customers directly. The winner of the BBC’s Great Interior Design Challenge, Martin Holland, founder of Martin Mark Design Store design workshop, will also deliver his latest views on store design.
