MKM’s ‘dominoes’ topple in Hull
12,000 ‘dominoes’ have weaved their way through Hull in a
landmark event, and will now be donated to good causes.
The special event – Dominoes – went ahead thanks to MKM Building Supplies as well as the help of 450 volunteers. 3.5 kilometres worth of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks
sequentially toppled through marinas, shops, gardens and
46 public squares in Hull. From the first ‘domino’ at
the Hull Marina’s Boat Yard at 4:30PM, it took over 60 minutes for the chain reaction to complete itself, with final block falling at Queens Gardens. All of these ‘dominoes’ were provided by Hull-headquartered MKM, free- of-charge.
The event was organised by Absolutely Cultured – the team
behind the hugely successful 2017 City of Culture campaign – to ‘transform the rhythm of Hull for one special day’.
Each ‘domino’ was a Ytong Standard Autoclaved Aerated Block, with dimensions of 600x100x200mm. Aerated autoclaved is a type of concrete that is particularly lightweight – one fifth of the mass of a normal concrete block of the same size.
