ollowing the success of the 2018 launch, Builders’ Merchants Journal has announced that the BMJ Industry Awards will return in 2019 to celebrate the very best brands, merchants and people at the heart of the builders’ merchants sector.

ntries and nominations are now open for the 2019 scheme which sees the introduction of three new accolades; ‘Timber Merchant of the Year’ will recognise the best UK based ‘bricks & mortar’ merchant that specialises in wood for use as a building material, while ‘Merchant Showroom of the Year’ and ‘Merchant Kitchen & Bathroom Showroom of the Year’ will recognise the creative outlets that significantly improve and enhance a merchants offering to customers. These new additions will join the existing merchant categories: ‘Merchant Marketing Campaign of the Year’; ‘Independent Merchant of the Year’; ‘Multiple Merchant of the Year’ sponsored by Knauf Insulation; ‘National Merchant of the Year’ and ‘New Merchant of the Year’.

Brands will be able to compete for nine accolades: ‘Best Bathroom Brand’; ‘Best Distributor Brand’; ‘Best Heating Brand’; ‘Best Heavyside Brand’; ‘Best Kitchen Brand’; ‘Best Landscaping Brand’; ‘Best Plumbing Brand’; ‘Best Roofing Brand’ and ‘Best Timber Brand’.

he 2019 edition of the event will also mark the introduction of the new ‘Diversity Award’, recognising a company that has demonstrated the upmost support for its staff, through the conscious removal of bias and barriers and introduction of initiatives designed to encourage positive change and development throughout the business.
ndividual efforts from across the builders’ merchants and suppliers sector will once again be recognised in the following categories: ‘Independent Rising Star of the Year’, ‘National Rising Star of the Year’, ‘Best Customer Service’, ‘Best Sales Representative’ and the coveted ‘Industry Personality Award’.
ollowing the deadline of Monday 14 January 2019, every single entry and nomination – subject to meeting the necessary criteria – will proceed to the ‘voting’ stage, where industry professionals will have the opportunity to put their weight behind the brands, merchants and people that they believe in. The recipients of the highest number of votes will be revealed as the winners at the BMJ Industry Awards luncheon, taking place in the heart of London in May 2019.
