LANDSCAPING

then that we’re noticed a big difference in the amount of people requesting resin bound aggregates.”

Hughes continues: “Following a slight economic upturn over the last couple of years people have more disposable income. They are looking to extend their living areas and outdoor spaces can offer a low-cost alternative to moving or building extensions. The fantastic summer we have been experiencing is sure to enhance this trend even further. However the heat has been destroying lawns up and down the country, so artificial grass is offering a solution; no watering required and looks fresh all year round. We’ve definitely noticed a spike in our sales of Luxigraze.”

“The extremes of weather we have experienced over the last year are also responsible for a number of other trends we’ve mentioned. Traditional concrete and tarmac options don’t cope very well with extreme temperatures. Snow and ice cause concrete to crack and the hot weather has been melting tarmac up and down the country. This causes all sorts of problems, from uneven surfaces to car tyre problems. Customers are therefore choosing to use either textured products such

as cobblestones or hard-wearing and low maintenance resin-bound aggregates.” Even with the hit the landscaping industry took following the ‘Beast from the East’, Hughes says that Talasey haven’t seen a great amount of fluctuation in prices this year. “It remains to be seen how Brexit will affect pricing in the coming years. In products such as Indian sandstone, which we import, there is so far little change on shipping and currency issues and that could affect the cost of natural stone.” “Our sales are up on last year and we’re in a good place! The weather really hit external landscaping in the first quarter of 2018 and as such March was almost completely lost but the market has been recovering well since. Many projects were delayed but the wonderful weather we’ve experienced since April set the market flying again. Porcelain paving continues to be a massive growth area. Even the bad weather didn’t slow that area down.” Talasey group have increased and strengthened their external sales team, to build and maintain the relationships they have and need with key people in the merchant sector. “We focus on ensuring we have the right product at the right price, the right point of sale

and the right aftercare service with support to back it all up.”

“We have also recently developed our customer care team, so merchants have this team in addition to our external team and internal sales and marketing team there to support them on a daily basis. We are always looking to enhance our online presence and social media campaigns to ensure we support merchants. Talasey Group actively encourages and rewards quality work within the industry, through our Landscaping Professionals Awards, which aim to reward customer loyalty and promote development within the industry.”
