A new decorative product from Wild Stone UK is mixing the benefits of veneer with the beauty of natural stone. BMJ takes a look at Decorativo.
D
ecorativo, the brand new product from Wild Stone UK, is an ultra thin veneer made from 100% natural stone. With a thickness of just 1–2 mm, it offers the beauty of real stone in a lightweight, flexible format that can be applied to both flat and curved surfaces. The sheets are produced by peeling a thin layer from large blocks of natural stone, a process that enables thousands of sheets to be created from a single stone block. Traditionally, stone is viewed as strong, rigid, and unyielding. Not Decorativo though, which turns that perception on its head, enabling real stone to bend, flex, and conform to a wide variety of shapes and surfaces.
It retains the authentic look and texture of natural stone, but is more versatile. At just 1–2 mm thick, the sheets are significantly lighter than conventional stone, reducing both handling and installation challenges. Despite the minimal thickness, the sheets are resilient and suitable for use in demanding environments, including those exposed to extreme temperatures.
As a natural product, Decorativo displays unique variations in colour and pattern. Finishes such as Copper Metallic, Gold Dust, and Obsidian tend to show subtle shifts, while Blanco, Forest, and Volcanic offer greater contrasts between sheets. Each pair of sheets is matched for a degree of consistency, but the inherent variation is considered part of the material’s aesthetic value and authenticity. It will initially be available in six colours and
option for exterior façades as well as interior decorative features.
Decorativo bonds effectively to most stable substrates, including concrete, plasterboard, wood, tiles, plaster, metal, and glass. It can also be installed with grout joints to replicate the appearance of tiled surfaces.
Bending options
Thanks to its engineered backing, the veneer can bend to fit concave or convex surfaces and wrap around radial or arched structures. This characteristic significantly expands the design possibilities for real stone, though flexibility can vary between sheets, so testing before installation is advisable.
Cutting Decorativo is straightforward, using wet diamond marble blades, tungsten carbide wood blades or diamond-tungsten carbide panel saws. Cuts should always be made from the reverse side of the sheet, and any rough edges can be smoothed with light sanding. In practice, Decorativo offers architects, designers, installers and merchants a material

that bridges the gap between the durability of natural stone and the flexibility of modern surface finishes. Its combination of light weight, adaptability, and authentic appearance makes it suitable for both residential and commercial projects. Whether applied to a feature wall, a piece of furniture, or an external façade, it delivers the aesthetic impact of stone without the limitations of bulk and rigidity. For the trade, this means greater scope in design and installation. Complex curved surfaces, once difficult or impossible to achieve with stone, can now be realised with relative ease. At the same time, Decorativo maintains the qualities that have always made natural stone desirable: individuality, durability, and timeless visual appeal.
