THE FUTURE OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Earlier this year, Energy Efficiency at City Plumbing unveiled its first Energy Efficiency Centre in Farnborough. Anjali Sooknanan went to find out how the centre has been operating since.

n April 21, in partnership with GTEC training, Energy Efficiency at City Plumbing unveiled its first Energy Efficiency Centre in Farnborough, Hampshire. The centre was designed to showcase renewable energy home heating technologies such as heat pumps, underfloor heating and solar panels. As part of

its campaign to address the lack of certified heat pump installers in the UK, the centre also offers accredited training courses for installers. Hemal Morjaria, managing director of Energy Efficiency at City Plumbing says: “The centre has been well-received, attracting visitors from large social housing organisations and local councils, new build contractors and wastewater recovery

experts, as well as tradespeople and branch colleagues who want to expand their knowledge of energy efficiency technologies to help installers on the front line at the trade counter. “The centre is also open to the general public six days a week, who have arrived in droves to see how energy efficiency technologies might look and feel within their homes and receive

60% OF UK HOMEOWNERS PLAN TO INSTALL SOLAR

Survey from City Plumbing reveals the huge potential of the solar PV and heat pump market

A 36

survey of homeowners has underlined the sheer size of the solar and heat pump opportunity for installers. Almost two thirds, 60%, say they plan to invest in solar panels. And 26% say they have already considered a heat pump – with 39% saying they are familiar with heat pump technology. The poll, commissioned by City Plumbing and conducted by Censuswide, asked 2,011 homeowners across the UK how eco-conscious they were and what it would take for them to consider having renewables installed in their homes.

The results make for positive reading for the industry. More than 1.3 million homes have solar panel installations, according to the latest MCS data - meaning 4.1% of the 29 million homes in the UK currently generate electricity from solar panels.

Of these, 35.1% were detached, 31.1% semi-detached, 20.1% terraced and 14%
