KITCHENS A

s open-plan kitchens continue to be the heart of the home it’s important to keep ahead of evolving trends in a living space where looks and innovation are everything. The kitchen sink zone in particular is a key player in this sector as not only should it be design-led and a focal point, but multi- functional in its daily use. Once humble, the kitchen tap now takes centre stage in this workstation area, providing ample opportunities for personalised design, as well as an expanding range of user practicalities utilising the latest brassware technology. According to Rob Brooks, product manager, Prima Appliances, Sinks & Taps, this presents an excellent sales opportunity to the merchant, so it’s worth offering a good choice of kitchen tap styles boasting an array of finishes and functions, for all kitchen installation jobs. “At Prima, we understand this sector well, offering a great selection of the latest brassware designs, spanning a range of price points to suit varying customer budgets – as well as some of the industry’s most competitive prices,” he says.

Owned by the UK’s largest KBB distributor, PJH, the Prima brand is fully supported by its distribution service which includes a range of merchant benefits, such as next day delivery, online ordering with account management and premium service levels.

Coordination of taps with other kitchen fixtures and fittings is important, Brooks continues. “Starting with colours and finish, a wide array of interesting and high-quality finishes are readily available, enabling installers to coordinate taps, as well as create personalised schemes. The industrial-style design trend, for example, is still very popular, helping to create contemporary schemes using contrasting metallic finishes and materials. Finishes such as matt black, brushed steel, copper, gun metal and stainless steel, will help the sink zone stand out and create an eye- catching focal point in any kitchen.“ One of the most versatile colours, matt black, and Brooks explains that Prima has extended the matt black kitchen brassware range to cater for this demand. The range includes both premium and entry-level models, including Swan-neck mixers, V-shaped dual lever mixers and single lever designs.

“Coloured options also work well, such as grey, black, white and gun metal spouts, teamed with brushed steel bases. The colours have been chosen to match up with the same coloured Prima granite sinks for a luxurious and streamlined look, whilst remaining competitively priced,” he adds.

Professional styling is also becoming popular, Brooks says, with items like pull-out spray brassware models and designs with dual outlets – a mixer spout and a flexible spray head - associated with high-end kitchens, available via the Prima collection at an affordable level. “The design features a highly practical flexible hose allowing water to be dispersed in any direction, making washing awkward sized pans or cleaning the sink, effortless,” he says. “Our Italian-designed single lever mixer tap range includes a number

or 4-IN-1 hot-water tap models have grown considerably over the last few years, even at entry level prices, and are proving successful due to their multi-functional and energy saving properties. Brooks says: “Our 3-IN-1 Hot Tap range, comes with an extremely competitive price point, and is available in four on-trend finishes; matt black, brushed copper, chrome and brushed steel (pictured above). “Delivering instantly boiled filtered water at three temperatures (98°C, 96°C and 75°C), 3-IN-1 hot taps also offer normal hot and cold water, and not only does it save water, but also time and worktop space (making the kettle redundant) - they also offer substantial energy savings by using much less electricity to boil water.” Supplied with a 2.4 litre tank and UK- manufactured water filter, which sit discreetly beneath the sink, the tank features a digital touch control boiler display.

Brooks adds: “The kitchen tap may be a relatively small part of a whole new kitchen scheme, but it offers so much in terms of designer-inspired looks, innovative technology, multi-functional benefits and energy-saving aspects. It pays to stay up to date with the latest developments in this sector and be armed with comprehensive advice for the installer. “With budgets tight and every penny counting, savvy consumers are always on the lookout for value-for-money options, especially when it comes to kitchen projects.” BMJ
