ELECTRIC STREAMS

New

housing standards are driving a surge in sales of electric showers. BMJ asks why.

this will likely lead them to seek out more efficient and sustainable appliances, such as electric showers

When it comes to bathroom trends, 2025 is proving to be another year of innovative designs, with plenty of interior trends influencing customers’ purchasing decisions. Wise says that the popular zen bathroom trend, for instance, is being driven by a growing focus on wellbeing. Zen bathrooms often incorporate minimalist design principles which help to reduce clutter by focusing on essential elements.

A

s the rise in household energy and water bills continues to pose concern among householders, the expected arrival of Future Homes Standard is prompting the industry to proactively prepare for the transition towards sustainable housing. The link between the two? Electric showers and their role in driving change. Karen Wise, head of product management at Triton Showers says: “Electric showers are known for their energy and water efficiency. By heating water on demand, energy isn’t needlessly warmed when not required, helping end-users to subsidise soaring energy bills. As reducing water and energy consumption becomes more of a priority for customers, merchants are encouraged to recognise the key driver behind current demand – cost- saving potential.”

Wise says that it is important that style and design elements aren’t sacrificed, and that the market’s latest offerings are designed to fulfil both needs, enabling residents to lower their water and energy usage, save money on household bills and enjoy a stylish shower design.

“Following another rise in water bills, a 42

growing number of end-users are looking to monitor their water usage and patterns to identify areas where they can reduce consumption. In the past, electric showers have left customers in the dark when it comes to monitoring these metrics. Appliances like Triton’s ENVi®

, however, provide end-users

with full control over their shower experience, right down to the cost.” ENVi®

enables users to monitor their estimated water and energy consumption, providing feedback designed to inspire cost-conscious behaviour. The shower’s eco-mode also encourages users to reduce their shower time by one minute, a small habitual change that Wise believes could make a monumental difference.

Lifestyle adjustments “If just one per cent of UK households were to cut their daily shower time by one minute, this could save over 673 million litres of water – the equivalent of 270 Olympic swimming pools. It would also save around 6.7 million kg CO2e – the same as removing 3,950 cars from the UK’s roads,” she says.

As end-users become increasingly aware of their energy usage and environmental impact,

“Merchants are therefore encouraged to stock natural materials, such as wood and stone, alongside minimalist fixtures, such as the latest contemporary showering solutions. As ever, installers also play a major role in achieving a customer’s desired finish for bathroom projects. It’s therefore crucial that merchants offer products that are simple to fit and ensure the installation process is as time effective as possible,” she explains. Triton’s latest thermostatic electric shower, ENlight®

manufacturer’s exclusive UNIQ®

, is also available with the kit option.

This incorporates kit brackets that enable the overhead shower to be installed on a flat wall or in a corner, making it ideal for smaller enclosures. This also features a flexible telescopic horizontal arm and a 200mm diameter overhead to provide optimal shower coverage.

Ahead of the game

Wise says: “With Future Homes Standard on the horizon and energy and water bills forecasted to rise over the coming months, it’s important that any sustainable action factors in the importance of generating immediate cost savings.

“By offering smart upgrades such as contemporary electric showers, merchants play a vital role in helping the end-user boost efficiency in the home, reducing their energy bills in the process. Appliances like Triton’s ENVi®

are the perfect solution to catalysing the switch to sustainable showering.” BMJ
