Band of Builders finishes project for girl with severe learning difficulties

Aiva Barry and her family have thanked volunteers from award- winning construction charity Band of Builders for landscaping the outdoor space and erecting fencing around it.

Barry, 12, has severe learning difficulties and will now be able to play safely in her garden for the first time after the volunteers work on her home in Craigavon, in Northern Ireland.

Speaking at the handover of

the project, landscaper Ciaran Barry, Aiva’s father, said: “It looks amazing and we can’t thank everyone involved enough for coming together as a team to create an area where Aiva can play

safely. She’s looking forward to having a new bunny rabbit and a hot tub in her new garden.” Barry was just two years old when she suddenly stopped breathing. This lasted three-four minutes before her parents were able to resuscitate her – and she was rushed to hospital.

Aiva was diagnosed as having 15q11.2 microdeletion – which is a rare chromosome abnormality in which a tiny piece of genetic

material is missing. The most common features include developmental, motor and language delays; behaviour and emotional problems; attention deficit disorders; and ASD. Builders merchant JP Corry was the headline sponsor for the project, which was also supported by the charity’s National Landscaping Partner, Talasey. It was the 34th project by the charity – the second in Northern Ireland – and the week-long project (which was hampered by the weather) involved creating a seating area, laying paving and installing outdoor lighting in the 70 sqm. area.

Covers doubles employee’s Brighton 10K fundraising

Covers Timber & Builders Merchants is congratulating employee Damon Knee for completing the Brighton 10k by doubling the amount of money he raised for charity.

CMO Group PLC has strengthened its relationship with transport and distribution company Premier Logistics with the launch of a new look for its delivery vehicles.

Its new CMO-branded vehicles will support the delivery of customer orders from Tile Superstore, including those via Total Tiles which was acquired by CMO in 2020. CMO brand director, Ben Hodson, said: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with Premier Logistics, who has supported Total Tiles for a number of years. The new branded delivery vehicles mark an important milestone for us as this will be the first time that customers will see our new logo and identity on display. “We are focused on offering our customers an attentive and reliable service through our successful drop-ship model and our partnership with Premier Logistics is helping us to deliver on this commitment in more ways than one.”

Knee took part in the event alongside his son Aaron to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. Knee said: “Prostate cancer is a silent battle that affects far too many men, including those

close to me. It’s crucial for men to understand the importance of regular screenings and early detection. The Brighton 10k was not just a run for me; it was a

run to increase awareness about getting tested and to raise money to help Prostate Cancer UK continue its research. “Thank you to everyone who donated to me and Aaron, and to Covers for the generous match-funding donation.” The duo secured £530 in donations, which Covers doubled as part of its match- funding initiative.

Parkers kicks off TWRFC ladies rugby club support

Builders merchant Parker Building Supplies sponsored the 2023 rugby tour hoodies for the Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club’s Women’s section.

Around 80 players, coaches and parents spent three days in Cambridge, where they were hosted by Cambridge University Rugby Club, who arranged training sessions the current CURFC Ladies 1st Team. There were also matches for all the sections U12s, U14s, U16s, U18s and the Ladies 1XV playing teams from the local area, and from the University. All the players learned a lot and couldn’t wait to get back to training to put it into practice. Among the activities was a Treasure Hunt and photography challenge round the streets of Cambridge. Tour Rules state that hoodies must be worn

at all times, so the Parkers’ logo was highly visible. Some of the College Porters were a bit surprised at the number of people in blue hoodies being snapped practising their line- outs, scrums and rucking outside as many Cambridge Colleges as possible in the timeframe. The tour also saw a match between Cambridge RFC and Doncaster Knights.

Simon Parsons, head coach of the TWRFC Ladies 1st XV, said: “We love taking the whole squad away, and things like the generous sponsorship of Parker Building Supplies help to make it possible. We are very grateful for all their support. Participation in Women’s Rugby is growing all the time, spurred on by the success of the Red Roses, which many of our players hope to emulate one day.”
