PARNTER GROWTH CONTINUED EXPANSION FOR NBG
It’s been a difficult year for many but NBG has continued to prosper, adding new Partners. One of them talks about life in the group.
O
ctober saw a new addition as 3Counties Timber and Building Supplies joined the Group. The company joins NBG after being acquired by Grant & Stone and its strategic investment partner, Cairngorm Capital Partners. Richard Dawson, Managing Director of 3Counties says the company has adapated well to being in NBG.
Since 2007, 3Counties has been supplying a range of heavy and lightside building materials to the trade and general public across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. At the start of 2020, the 3Counties management team felt that the business had reached its full potential in its current form so made the decision to sell, as a result becoming part of NBG.
Dawson reflects on the new era of 3Counties so far and how the team is already reaping the benefits of becoming an NBG Partner: “The transition period of becoming part of Grant & Stone has not been without challenges, especially having to navigate changes during a worldwide pandemic, but there is a real commitment on all sides to make it work and help the new 3Counties grow and prosper,”

Things are going in the right direction and we’re looking forward to what 2021 will bring.
he says. “We’ve been working hard to manage the pace of change and make sure we’re taking our staff and customers on this journey with us. Things are going in the right direction and we’re looking forward to what 2021 will bring.”
Being acquired by Grant & Stone has meant that 3Counties joins NBG as a company by association and Richard has already begun to take advantage of the benefits this brings. He says: “Previously we were members of another buying group but were very aware of NBG, because it’s always been seen as one of the strongest buying groups out there. We’ve already had some extremely positive conversations with NBG Suppliers including
Polypipe, Keystone, Pavestone and Brett, and have noticed an improvement in the level of access we have to product, especially in the brick and block sector.”
One of the biggest benefits of being part of NBG is the network of support and expertise that comes with it. Dawson is looking forward to sharing 3Counties’ specialist knowledge with other NBG Partners and making the most of any support to further develop their timber offer. He says: “Personally I have been working with timber since I was 16 – so many years ago! We do specialise in timber at 3Counties, people may not know this, but we actually have a fully functioning sawmill at one of our branches and can cut timber to suit our customers’ requirements.
“We’re hoping to grow this side of the business further and are looking forward to getting involved with NBG’s Timber CMT. We’re also really keen to develop our tool hire offer, which Grant & Stone will help us with. It’s been a really positive start to our partnership with NBG and we’re excited to explore new opportunities and work with the other Partners in 2021 and beyond.”
