Robert Price helps primary school’s outdoor learning


Blaenavon Heritage VC Primary School have a brand-new shelter for their ‘Forest School’ outdoor learning area, thanks to Melin Homes and a donation of materials from Robert Price Builders’ Merchants. The inspirational ‘Forest School’ offers


learners all sorts of great opportunities to learn new skills, enhance their confidence, build self- esteem, and work together as a team. “We were delighted to support this local community effort by donating a range of materials for the project,” said Molly Pike, marketing director at Robert Price.“It’ll be great to see how the shelter and outdoor learning area are being put to use for years to come!” Nikki Westwood from Blaenavon Heritage Primary said: “The volunteer team have built a fantastic outdoor area, bringing students even closer to nature and able to make the most out of fresh air learning,” she said.


“We’d like to say a great big thank you to both Robert Price and Melin Homes for all of their help! This shelter allows our Forest School to fully flourish, enabling pupils to reap a host of enriching benefits.”


Tapping into TikTok top jobs


The old ‘uns amongst you, gentle readers, may have no idea what this means and, indeed, the Editor had to look it up, but TikTok, the social media platform du jour has highlighted the most popular trades, according to research amongst its audience. According to TikTok’s viewing figures, the construction industry is still a desired career path. Hurrah. Apparantly, welding is the most popular, maybe it’s something to do with all those flames making for good video content. Gratifyingly for the welding industry, welding is also one of the top 3 most popular trades on TikTok for a female- focused audience – thanks to the hashtag #welderwoman. Bricklaying takes second place, followed up by Engineering, carpentry, electrician and plumber. Drainage, oddly, creeps in at number 14 in the list, Thatcher at 22 and Autolocksmith at 25. Alas, no-one is searching TikTok for builders merchants it seems. I sense a BMJ Challenge coming on – let’s get builders merchanting trending on TikTok. Let me just find some teenagers to show me how to do it.


LBS lauds leadership ladies


LBS Builders Merchants held a graduation event for the women who have attained their Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) awards, which form part of gender equality charity Chwarae Teg’s wider career development programme. This is the third year that the business has enrolled staff on the programme, which is fully funded by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government. It is an inspirational initiative, helping working women develop knowledge, confidence and skills for team leading or managerial roles.

They have not only gained key leadership skills valued by us as an employer, but also developed their own confidence. As a business, we aim to provide excellence in customer service through the commitment and knowledge of all our staff, and working with Chwarae Teg helps us to do that. While there isn’t formal graduation this year, we have created our own presentation to our learners to celebrate their achievements and give them the recognition they deserve.”
