industry event Ambiente 2022: focus on sustainability


Messe Frankfurt Group, the organiser of Ambiente, released a slew of new information about the 2022 event in a press conference earlier this month. Housewares shares the highlights.

The event is set to showcase key themes across Tabletop, Kitchen and housewares from 11-15 February, 2022. ”Full of anticipation, optimism and with a great deal of commitment, we are looking forward to the global industry gathering in February. Retailers need personal encounters, inspiration and haptic product experiences - we offer the industry all of this with our trade fairs. Ambiente is the hub around which the consumer goods industry revolves and we are very much looking forward to finally welcoming the industry back to Frankfurt,” commented Philipp Ferger, vice president consumer goods fairs.


Tabletop, kitchen and housewares will form the core offering, alongside giving, living and furnishing, with renowned brands presenting their latest products at across 9 halls on 20 levels.

Design studio Stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano, on behalf of Messe Frankfurt, have identified three main areas of inspiration for the show.

Identity knowing + making: In times of infinite options, we consciously understand living as a reconquest of traditional knowledge and skills. Surfaces and materials are based very closely on nature. Products made by hand, locally or in small editions express appreciation for knowledge and tradition. Alternative materials and natural color themes emphasise the deep connection with our home.


Lively improving + liberating: Strong colors, distinct graphic contrasts and artistically designed products inspire optimism and a positive vibe. The extension of our home into the urban space with its parks and public places has a liberating and invigorating effect. Summery, luminous tones bring warmth. Fresh, clear nuances support the versatility of this dynamic living theme.


New sustainable program


Sustainability, with all its facets, is now a core global social and economic issue with enormous reach and significance, and this is set to be evident both at Ambiente and in the actions of Messe Frankfurt itself. The Frankfurt consumer goods fair is continuing its commitment to sustainability with the addition of special interest program Ethical Style, which draws attention to manufacturers of sustainable or ethically produced consumer goods.

Messe Frankfurt uses a number of control mechanisms to make personal encounters at attendance fairs as safe as possible. Measures include 100% fresh air supply, generous design of halls and entrances to maintain safety distances, intensive cleaning measures, a hygiene-adapted catering concept and the wearing of mouth and nose protection. A supplementary online platform for Ambiente will increase international reach for exhibiting companies and trade visitors alike, as well as promoting new contacts, networking opportunities and knowledge transfer. Digital exchange via chat or video is possible as early as one week before and two weeks after the event. Trend presentations and selected trade fair highlights from the supporting program are streamed live and can be experienced digitally. This means that the trade show highlights can also be experienced by visitors from overseas who will not be able to travel in 2022 due to travel restrictions.


Currently, entry into Germany is possible for business travellers from almost all countries without quarantine. The prerequisite for this is a business reason, and participation in a trade fair falls under this. In addition, visitors will require proof of complete vaccination, recovery or a current antigen test (3G).
