The Spring/Summer 2018 edition of Top Drawer kicked off the show season on January 14 at Olympia in London. Here’s a snapshot of some of the key housewares launches.


Royal Crown Derby


The manufacturer said its new collection, Studio Glaze, ‘extends the technicalities of producing on fine bone china and uses a reactive glaze application that has never before been seen on such a pure, translucent material. Reactive pigments, in combination with the richly coloured glazes, create a textured interplay of materials to deliver a tactile and silky sheen on the surface of each piece’.

Stay Sixty Creative Tops


From the Katie Alice brand, Creative Tops introduced Eastern Flora, described as ‘a new collection which aims to awaken your table with oriental flowers and exotic colour. Eastern Flora ignites delicate and beautiful florals with bold accents and eye-catching contrasts. Turmeric yellow offers vibrant energy alongside emerald green, while cherry pink florals softly pop against turquoise’.

The winner of Top Drawer’s inaugural Spotted Award for design- led brands new to the show, Stay Sixty is a crafted reusable double-walled water bottle. It is designed in London and made from food-grade, BPA-free, stainless steel. The judges described it as ‘a strong, innovative design, tapping into the current and urgent concern with plastics.’

This Spotted Award runner-up is ‘all about the love of live vinegar’. Consumers can make their own live vinegar with the Cult Vinegar vase, which is a contemporary take on the traditional vinegar fermentation crock, cast by hand in porcelain by ceramicist Billy Lloyd. The vase comes in a kit with a bottle of Cult Vinegar starter culture, a recipe booklet and labels. The judges described it as ‘a well-designed, unique product that perfectly taps into the food and craft movement’.

On show was the HOLD-ON pot holder from RIG-TIG, which won the Red Dot Award 2017 for product design. Its shape is designed to ensure a good grip on pots and pans and provide more heat insulation than conventional cloth pot holders and oven mitts. Made of heat-safe silicone that withstands up to 230 °C/446 °F, HOLD-ON can also be used as a table trivet under hot dishes. It is available in misty rose, light grey, dark grey and a new colour: dark blue.

Divine Savages


This Spotted Award runner-up is a design- led interiors brand delivering a collection of home accessories, giftware, luxury wallpaper, fabrics and limited-edition art prints ‘with a flourish of both the divine and the savage’. The judges described it as ‘a fresh and opulent addition to the contemporary interior landscape’.

Navigate


Vibrant colours and bold graphic prints featured among Navigate’s new ranges for summer 2018. Seville (pictured) and Aruba, two new outdoor living collections, include picnic baskets, cool bags and outdoor tableware.

Microplane


According to Microplane, its new 2-in-1 Spice Mill features ‘pioneering photo-etching technology’. It says: ‘The ultra-sharp teeth not only effortlessly grate hard spices, such as nutmeg and cinnamon - adding both flavour and aroma to dishes - but also stores them.’
