Harness the sun to ease pressure on the Grid
I
f I were to pick out one feature from this month’s bumper issue, it’s about the benefits of solar thermal, often overlooked as a technology but it could be important for the energy transition. There’s no getting away from the pressure on the Grid as demand for electrification skyrockets. However, some experts are warning that we can’t rely on electrification alone particularly as many businesses are already waiting years for Grid connections. In our feature on pg21 Naked Energy says it’s really a matter of being smarter and looking to off-Grid technologies like solar thermal which captures the sun’s energy as heat directly. If a hotel, hospital of factory needs large volumes of water, this can then be produced on site. In summary: “Every unit generated this way is one less unit that needs to come from a boiler or the Grid” – wise words from Naked Energy.
Elsewhere in this issue, we have our biannual heat pump supplement and a six-page review of this year’s HVR Awards. Other features include Commercial Heating, Ventilation & Heat Recovery and Domestic Solutions & Applications.
