HEAT PUMPS FOR AONB COMPLEX

C

hipping Homes has specified air source heat pumps from NIBE for its Fellside development in the village of Chipping in the Ribble Valley, which comprises of 39 family homes.

Homebuyers at the development, which is in an Area of Outstanding

Natural Beauty (AONB), can be reassured that they are doing their bit for the environment by heating their homes with high efficiency, eco-friendly air source heat pumps. The NIBE heat pumps will provide heating and hot water to the property. Thirty-two, three to five-bedroom homes on the development, are being fitted with NIBE F2040 air source heat pumps, which are suitable for meeting all their heating and hot water requirements. The discreet heat pumps offer low noise levels, where the collector unit will be installed in the majority of cases, externally to the garage. The remaining seven properties are smaller bungalows built for the local over 55s community, and these are being fitted with NIBE F730 Exhaust Air Heat Pump systems, which offer ventilation, alongside heating and hot water. The homes have high levels of insulation to the cavity wall and loft, to optimise thermal performance. They are built with UPVC double-glazed windows and French doors and a number of the properties at Fellside also come with electric car charging points. On their choice of heat pumps, director of Chipping Homes, Ken Whitaker,

explains: “The rural location of this site, which is in Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, meant that designing a heating system to meet the demand of modern homebuyers was a challenge. The NIBE heat pump system offered a good balance of proven technology and consumer-friendly interface. The use of heat pumps meant no unsightly on-site gas storage tanks or the need to provide access for tank refilling or maintenance, which also helped with the site layout.” The systems are being supplied with NIBE Uplink to create a Smart Home

system. This means they can control their heating system remotely via an app on their smart phones or tablet and monitor its performance. The NIBE system comes with a seven-year warranty. Fellside has been designed to reflect and complement Chipping’s natural

surroundings and heritage, nestling within miles of open countryside, including forests and working farmland.

looks at how can we improve our mental health? Quality Plumber Week (QPW) ran from October 7 to 13 and aimed to raise awareness of what poor mental health is and what can be done to improve the mental health and wellbeing of plumbing and heating contractors. Firstly, it is important to say that it is possible to improve your own mental well-being, but there isn’t a one-size fits all solution. You have to work at it and it starts with recognising and admitting to yourself that you have a problem. Once you have acknowledged this, you need to take time to think about and understand what negatively impacts your mental well- being and, where possible, what steps you can take to eliminate the things and people that negatively affect your mental wellbeing. I recently spoke with Lee Woodgate a self-employed plumbing & heating engineer and co-founder of MENtalk and he shared his experiences of what he does to help keep his mental well-being healthy: “Ensure you make time to do what makes you happy. For me going to the gym is a massive help. I also try to eat a healthy diet and control the amount of alcohol I drink. “Get help, for me speaking to a psychiatrist helped hugely. Speaking to someone who doesn’t know you can really help. “Give yourself credit for what you’ve achieved. In my case I know not

everyone can run their own business. “Don’t think about the whole day and what you’ve got to do. Take one step at a time; firstly, get out of bed, then brush your teeth, take a shower, have breakfast, etc. If you don’t, the problem that you’re putting off facing will still be there tomorrow. “Don’t feel you’ve got to do deal with the problem yourself. A problem

shared is a problem halved. Speak to someone, a professional therapist, a friend, family member, even a customer, or contact a mental health charity like the Samaritans. “Try and identify what impacts you negatively and eliminate these

triggers. For me, social media can make me feel depressed as it can make me feel like my life is rubbish whilst everyone else’s life is amazing. I do go on social media, but not as much as I used to and not when I’m feeling low. “Where possible I put my phone on silent between 5-9 pm to give me uninterrupted time with my family. You need to be strong as most emails and text messages can wait until the morning.” If you’re feeling down you can call Samaritans 24/7 on 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org. There is a Facebook Group called MENTalk where men can express how

they’re feeling and seek help from other group members who are experiencing similar issues with their mental well-being.
