headers, pump sets and a Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) into the design. Ensuring that all new plant was protected from the existing building distribution systems was a key element of the scheme. The PHE protects the new plant from the existing building distribution system via hydraulic separation, and so optimises boiler performance and longevity.
The drawings of the boiler cascade enabled early visualisation of the layout before the offsite production took place. David comments: “As we also design in 3D, the fact that the drawings were available in the same format enabled more close and accurate design.”
ABSN’s contracts director Nick Clews agreed: “Early engagement with Remeha was central to the success of the scheme. Having the detailed co- ordinated dimensioned designs for each plantroom a oll wed us both to procure and to preinstall pipework in readiness for the boiler delivery. This helped speed up the installation process considerably.”
The entire refurbishment scheme went
smoothly, with the challenging delivery dates met. “We would have no hesitation in using Remeha again on projects and found them to be proactive in engaging into a team ethos to ensure that the scheme was delivered on time and with no detrimental effect to the end user,” says Nick. David adds: “The project went extremely well. We’re delighted to report that, since monitoring

As system designs grow in complexity and technology continues to evolve rapidly, early consultation with good
manufacturers at the design stages has become increasingly important. On the one hand, the exchange of knowledge ensures that designers and contractors keep up-to-speed on the latest advances in technology and design. On the other, adopting a more collaborative approach can help resolve project challenges – from tight schedules to access or space restrictions to intricate hybrid system design.
At the end of the day, no one has the same in-depth knowledge of a heating product as its manufacturer or knows better how to maximise its efficiency. As this project for Nottinghamshire Police illustrates, adopting a
collaborative, integrated way of working is also more likely to lead to more bespoke solutions such as offsite
