Health & humidity

B

uilding services have an important role to play in making sure our commercial buildings are fit for purpose as the

lockdown eases and more people start to return to their workplace.

Humidity levels in buildings is one area that is likely to become more important as building owners seek ways to make their premises safe for staff and customers.

Experts in humidity, among them Condair and Humidity Solutions, have long been pointing to scientific evidence that a relative humidity of between 40% and 60% could help reduce the transmission of viruses. In a special feature this month John Barker of Humidity Solutions expands on what building owners stand gain from ensuring premises maintain an optimal RH, while Condair’s Oliver Zimmermann calls for UK regulations on humidity levels to be modernised to echo overwhelming scientific evidence.

Elsewhere in the issue, we reflect on

International Women in Engineering Day – the global awareness campaign organised by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES). BESA is also backing the campaign calling for a more diverse building engineering sector.

We’re also featuring filters & air cleaning, residential HVAC, CHP, fan coil systems and look out for the HVRd supplement for domestic installers.

Heathe Ramsden, Edito C

ompanies and individuals from across the heating and ventilating sector now have until Friday, July 24 to put themselves in the running to win a prestigious accolade at the 2020 HVR Awards.

Organiser Datateam Business Media recognises that, given current circumstances, many businesses will not have had the opportunity to gather the relevant information to complete and submit their applications.

This extension to the deadline aims to enable outstanding products, companies and professionals to be put forward for consideration, at a time when it is arguably more important than ever to recognise the hard work and contributions of everyone in the sector.

Entering is quick, easy & free There are a variety of accolades up for grabs at

the HVR Awards 2020. Whether you manufacture innovative air conditioning or ventilation products, demonstrate a significant commitment to the future through your sustainable ethos or provide outstanding customer service within the HVACR

sector – there is an award designed to recognise what you do best.

To put yourself in the running, simply check out the categories and find your opportunity to shine, put together a short statement to explain why you deserve to win and gather any documents that support your application and submit it using the quick and easy online form available on the HVR Awards website. Entries close at 12pm on Friday, July 24. This year the HVR Awards has introduced a couple of new categories which potential entrants should look out for.

These include the Collaboration of the Year recognising examples of collaborative work that has delivered outstanding results on an HVAC project; the Domestic Product of the Year which will reward the most innovative new products available for domestic properties – open to both heating and ventilation products; and our special new award – the Net Zero Hero which is for any HVAC company that has made the most significant strides to introduce low carbon technology, or a product using such technology, to help the UK meet it’s net- zero 2050 carbon emissions target. www.hvrawards.com/enter/
