Heat pump innovation for high-rise apartments
Increasingly building designers are having to look for better performing and increasingly efficient solutions. The Zeroth Energy System for use within high-rise apartment developments, from Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation, is one solution that fits the bill
purpose and achieved the progressively stricter renewable compliance, whilst also being financially and practically feasible.
To be a best practice alternative to traditional systems, this new solution needed: • Increased system efficiency • To provide significant benefits regarding compliance
• To reduce heat loss from communal
communal pipework
• To provide flexibility around the specification of the plant, emitters and controls
• To fit within the set standard for prefabricated utility cupboards
T
he landscape of our cities is evolving with the increase in high-rise, high density residential developments. At the same time, Building
Regulations such as Part L are getting stricter to drive lower carbon developments and to ensure targets, such as Net-Zero 2050, are met.
As building fabric is tightened to limit heat loss through the external walls, it is becoming apparent that traditional high temperature systems do not operate effectively within a fabric first approach. Instead, the reduced air permeability has highlighted high system losses from high temperature solutions, trapping waste heat in corridors, lowering overall system efficiency and resulting in a larger than required plant to heat demand ratio.
As a result, building designers are having to look for better performing and increasingly efficient solutions, especially when considering the progression of the building regulations and environmental targets.
Specification requirements for new heat pump solution
The Zeroth Energy System was developed in collaboration with market leading residential developers to ensure its performance was fit for
• A simplified installation to reduce time on site • Ease of service and maintenance for the end user • To be proportionate to the cost of current specified systems
Glen Dimplex Heating & Ventilation
GDHV’s team of researchers and technicians partnered with industry experts to design and manufacture the innovative Zeroth Energy System for use within high-rise apartment developments. The system provides industry professionals with a communal solution that offers:
• Significant benefits in achieving compliances • Specification flexibility
• Improved performance through greater efficiencies and reduction of heat losses
• Ease of installation to reduce costs and installation times
• Ease of maintenance through intelligent design • CAPEX savings, including savings on carbon tax During on-site installation, GDHV attend each
Zeroth heat pump install to certify the quality and ‘set to work’ the product. GDHV certification documents are provided to the installer, for inclusion within the dwelling operating and maintenance manuals. An electronic copy will be retained by GDHV as a record of the installation, automatically registering the warranty to the property address.
Via our UK network of GDHV service engineers, we can provide a fully
supported maintenance package for each
a our ineer ted m
Zeroth installation, this includes:
• One planned maintenance visit per annum for the Zeroth Heat Pump unit only
• Access to telephone support via our service team • Access to our engineer call out service • Extended product warranty (up to five years) providing annual maintenance checks
• Zeroth Heat Pump unit only repairs (to include parts and labour) if fault identified within warranty
This can be offered direct to the tenant/end user or alternatively to the building’s FM contractor. As part of our service offering at GDHV we also work closely with you through the construction process. This includes advice from specification and pre-planning, through to design, quantity surveyor discussions and to installation and commissioning. At GDHV we are dedicated to the design and
development of sustainable HVAC solutions for both commercial and residential settings. Our team of specialists understand what is involved in specifying compliant HVAC systems and are on hand to help you find the most effective solution for your project. We also provide advice on applying these solutions to your designs, using our in-house team of engineers. Alongside guidance on specification, we are also able to provide a number of CPD presentations, including one on the benefits of low temperature networks and the Zeroth Energy System, which can be delivered onsite, via webinar, screenshare or video.
