GTC AND KENSA JOIN FORCES TO DELIVER RENEWABLE HEATING TO THOUSANDS OF NEW BUILD HOMES

O

perator of last mile multi-utility networks, GTC, and the manufacturer and installer of ground source heat pumps, The Kensa Group, have

joined forces to deliver a low-cost renewable heating and cooling solution for tens of thousands of new build homes a year – introducing the Networked Ground Source Heat Pump solution. This solution off ers a clean alternative to gas, which is planned to be banned in new build developments from next year under the Future Homes Standard, requiring all new homes to have low-carbon heating. The Networked Ground Source Heat Pump solution provides reliable home heating and hot water through a ground source heat pump installed in each property, connected to a shared network of hidden underground pipework, similar to what is installed for other utilities. Kensa’s compact ‘Shoebox’ heat pump will fi t neatly under the water cylinder inside the home, saving valuable space and eliminating the need for any external kit, so there’s no visual impact on the property. With up to fi ve times the effi ciency of gas and a 30% increased effi ciency than an equivalent air source heat pump, these ground source heat pumps require no extra electricity capacity, easing developer concerns about site grid capacity. The GTC and Kensa partnership, said to be the largest

to be agreed between a utility infrastructure provider and a UK ground source heat pump manufacturer, will bring signifi cant scale, funding, and technical skill to the deployment of networked ground source heat pumps for the new build market – delivering a complete end-to-end heating, hot water, and cooling solution for housebuilders. Through this agreement, GTC will provide the funded solution to housing developers, along with the design, borehole drilling, and network installation, which can be implemented alongside the other utility networks as part of a one-stop shop. Kensa will add its expertise in infrastructure and design capabilities and supply its highly effi cient, UK- manufactured ground source heat pumps to fi t each property.

VAILLANT PARTNERS WITH DERBY MUSEUMS TO BUILD INDUSTRY SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE

V

aillant has launched the fi rst phase in its 3-year partnership with Derby Museums, bringing

new investment to develop future engineering skills in the region. As a manufacturer of heat pumps,

boilers and complimenting heating system products, Vaillant is one of the largest manufacturers based in Derbyshire. Having invested more than £50 million into the region, it has now partnered with Derby Museums on a new suite of educational programmes designed to inspire the apprentices, engineers and makers of the future. The Museum of Making is widely regarded as the site of the world’s fi rst modern factory, and today focusses its exhibitions on the history of making and engineering. As a free museum, it attracts visitors of all ages, including schools and families. As a key employer in the local area, Vaillant wants to be able to showcase making and engineering in

such a public space with an aim to encourage more people into the heating sector. Launched on 12th June, visitors to the Museum of Making will now be able to learn more about low carbon heating through its new Power Pod display. Alongside other industrial artefacts from Derby Museums’ collections, the new display showcases the innovations from both Vaillant and its sister

brand Glow-worm. The display also highlights the future of heating through heat pump technology. The partnership will also see the creation of a ‘Launch into Engineering’ project – where secondary school pupils will be invited to spend time in the Museum of Making’s Workshop, visit the Vaillant manufacturing plant and get a taste of life in the heating industry. For the next three years, Vaillant will collaborate on special workshops for visitors to get involved and understand low carbon alternatives in heating and new initiatives in education and skills development for the region.
