Copeland innovates integrated scroll compressor solution quieter heat pumps

A

t the 20th European Conference on Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in Milan,

Italy, Copeland presented innovative technology and complete compressor solutions that enable exceptionally quiet operation in heat pumps. With the help of the new Copeland YHV*RG and YHV*RT scroll compressors, original equipment manufacturers can develop effi cient heat pumps that meet the particularly high requirements for low noise in the residential sector, but without the need for elaborate sound insulation. The core of Copeland’s complete solution is a new type of variable speed scroll compressor designed specifi cally for heat pumps with R290 (propane) or R454C refrigerant. These scroll compressors generate a lower sound pressure than other scroll compressors: Compared to a standard Copeland compressor, the newly developed scroll compressors of the YHV low-sound series operate at full power with a 10 dB(A) lower sound pressure.

The low sound scroll compressors are complemented by the highly effi cient Copeland EV3 drive and the advanced superheat envelope controller (SEC). They continuously monitor performance and ensure that all operating parameters are within their defi ned safety margins. Because the Copeland low-sound solution package combines quietness with the highest energy effi ciency (A+++) and refrigerants with low global warming potential, it also ensures compliance with the F-Gas regulation, thus making it a future-proof investment.

Ideal Heating Commercial’s launches new information hub

I

deal Heating Commercial Products has introduced a new Net Zero information hub on its website –

idealcommercialboilers.com/net-zero - where visitors can get up to date on the UK’s drive to decarbonise commercial heating. It has been created as part of Ideal Heating’s Join the Net Zero Journey strategy, aimed at providing customers with low carbon commercial heating solutions.

The new information hub is home to informative case studies, white papers, and instructive guides created by Ideal Heating.

The full array of Ideal Heating low carbon commercial heating technologies is covered, from heat pumps through to highly effi cient heat networks and hydrogen blend ready boilers.

The ‘Heat Pumps – Road to Decarbonisation’ White Paper is essential reading, whilst the new ‘Hydrogen Guide: Understanding the Hydrogen Discussion’ is designed to educate and inform people on the evolving subject of hydrogen in heating. It provides an overview on the use of hydrogen as a fuel for commercial boilers, summarising the key issues and identifying where we currently sit and future possible pathways.

Ideal Heating Commercial’s range of low carbon heating solutions are also addressed on the new Net Zero information hub. These include ECOMOD commercial heat pumps, hydrogen-ready condensing boilers, and POD Heat Interface Units (HIU) for heat networks.

Penthouse apartments look to LG for heating and air conditioning

B

arons Keep in Barons Court, West London is a 1930’s Art Deco apartment development that has seen high levels of refurbishment in recent years. The apartments have seen the addition of luxury fi xtures and fi ttings, including high-quality air conditioning and heating.

The consultant, Consult JA and LG, through its distributor PACAIR,

specifi ed and installed a Multi V S system – a compact yet powerful Mini VRF air conditioning solution for residences and small offi ces that provides high performance with low operation costs. In addition they installed a Therma V Monobloc air to water heat pump unit to each of the penthouse apartments being refurbished. The LG Therma V units are the main source of heating and hot water and the Multi V S Air Conditioning system is to be used for the cooling. It can also be used to back up the heating if needed.

The Therma V system will prioritise the hot water, so that if there is a high demand for hot water the Air Conditioning system can be called on to heat the apartment. It’s a belt and braces approach to ensure that the occupants of the apartments are never short of hot water or heating. Both systems have external and internal units.
