BATHROOMS & SHOWERS

Setting the bar for bathroom heating innovation

Feature radiators and towel warmers have become a necessary bathroom component, now considered central to a design and interior scheme. There is a new appetite for heating solutions that provide homeowners with all the advantages of warmth and style without the environmental impact and so this needs to be factored in to the overall ‘design picture’ from the outset. Steve Birch, sales director at Vogue (UK) offers some insight

I

believe this new desire has stemmed from the abundance of sustainable materials now available, for instance, aluminium heating designs which are now being considered as an eco-luxe choice for the modern bathroom. Given

its water efficiency, flexible installation and lightweight material, aluminium is a great example of a sustainable material which can be endlessly recycled in the form of a designer towel rail or radiator. In my opinion, leading brands have been focused on two main areas alongside

eco-design compliance/sustainability namely lifestyle heating and added value. We are now firmly in the era of ‘be your own home stylist’ so it befits us all to really work in partnership with the homeowner and anticipate their every need, so with this in mind I anticipate that strong finishes like anthracite and black will be just as desirable as vintage metallics and timeless white finishes. Designer ‘hidden heating’ with floating bars that complement and add value in today’s personalised bathroom decors is set to be in huge demand, with end users enjoying essential components, which are ‘designed in’ from the very start of their project. Adding value where there is none is a popular aspect of home improvement offering easy living and high comfort that is both beautiful and practical. In light of this, en-suite bathrooms and cloakrooms continue to be a popular way to enhance convenience and add value to the home and research proves that over

three quarters of home buyers are likely to offer more money for a house if these are on offer. Therefore, we have seen an increase in ergonomic wall-hung towel warmers to enhance second bathrooms and new bathroom projects. With property experts indicating that house prices will continue to rise in

2022, personalisation in interiors is going to be fundamental moving forwards. Creative products like single bar heating will therefore answer demand from homeowners who appreciate traditional craftsmanship, coupled with the latest technology. Heating solutions are a great way to introduce colour and tone, as well as depict the latest trend for inspirational tone and texture. Innovative surface treatments and hand-finishing techniques have paved the way for pioneering special finish options. Monochromatic shades of white, grey and black will continue to top the trends chart and undergo constant reinvention, with special iridescent and/or weathered finishes. The metallics trend is embracing both warm and cool metals – independently and in combination – alongside colour-matched heating controls, valves, brackets and fixtures. A variety of copper, brass and nickel finishes in brushed and antique options are prominent with polished chrome and stainless steel standing strong to work with the latest dynamic bathroom interiors. Bespoke heating options can be a helpful way of adding personality and flair to a bathroom as well as serving a practical purpose. A timeless contemporary or traditional design can be co-ordinated with existing bathroom fixtures and fittings, for example, or a bespoke finish can add a welcome splash of colour
