of the Covid-19 pandemic. With the addition of a team dedicated to servicing customers based in Northern Ireland, Smith Brothers have complete UK coverage across a 17 strong branch network and a head office distribution centre in Leicestershire, which is due to relocate to a 53,000ft2 unit in 2023. To support our increased operational capacity

brought about by our sustainable expansion and continued success, we have also significantly increased our staffing numbers, growing every department and welcoming some of the industry’s most renowned faces. Notably, we have significantly expanded our

air conditioning and refrigeration infrastructure, overseen by a new Head of ACR, who has introduced dedicated AC specialists at all SBS locations to offer expert customer support. An Own Brand Development Manager has also been appointed, more details of whom will be announced in the coming months.

Online ordering is coming soon to www.sbsonline.net

Last year Smith Brothers launched an exclusive online portal for existing customers, enabling them to view, print & download their key account information and pay invoices 24/7. Previously, this could only be achieved by contacting the office during business hours to request paper or digital copies. 2022 will see the addition of online ordering

expertise, strong supplier relationships and capital, we have significantly increased our stock holding. This helps to absorb price increases where possible to ensure product lead times and customer price increases are kept to the absolute minimum. Our pro-active approach has seen the business

grow despite these economic challenges, opening new branches in Glasgow, Sheffield, High Wycombe and Cambridge since the start

for delivery and collection, allowing the customer to manage their complete order journey online if preferred. Customers can already browse our product catalogue and view our live stock availability in anticipation, which has been pre- populated with helpful product information to help the customer make a more informed purchasing decision. Product information such as product literature, videos, technical sheets, Luckins and BIM information are viewable if available.

A carbon free future A significant focus of the business is to align with the Government’s aim of reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2050. Smith Brothers have already acted by transitioning away from petrol/diesel to hybrid and fully electric cars. To date, the business has taken delivery of 67 all electric vehicles, including forty-five Model 3 Tesla’s, with even more to follow. We are also exploring the feasibility of adopting additional carbon-neutral alternatives such as fuel additives and hydrogen vehicles, along with trialling electric vans. Ultimately, when technology allows, we intend to replace all commercial combustion vehicles. Furthermore, the transport department strives

to improve the delivery service and ensure goods are transported safely whilst the business remains ecologically focused by incorporating the fleet recognition scheme FORS. From 2013, Smith Brothers held the Bronze membership before upgrading the award to Silver in 2017. Currently, the transport department is laying the foundations to work towards achieving Gold status, and they are on track for the accreditation to be awarded.

Industry standards

Smith Brothers are working toward achieving an ISO 9001 accreditation in Quality Management Systems, which will further demonstrate to our customer base that our business processes meet and exceed their project’s aims and objectives. In addition, in 2021, SBS became affiliate members of some of the industry’s leading associations, including CIBSE, BESA, BMTFA and IGEM, each known for their comprehensive resource of technical standards, helping to promote best industry practice. We believe our continued product area growth,

stock investment and ever-increasing operational capacity, along with the knowledge and dedication of our staff, sets us apart from other merchants.
