Daikin Applied (UK) has expanded its compact air handling unit (AHU) portfolio with the launch of Compact R, a new rotary heat recovery solution designed to deliver improved energy performance while retaining the space-saving footprint. Compact R is available in seven sizes, covering airfl ow rates from 500 to 6,000 m³/h, making it suitable for a wide range of light commercial and public sector applications. Units are available in right- or left-hand confi gurations with side duct connections, helping to simplify layout design and installation on constrained sites. Compact R can be installed indoors or outdoors, supporting both new-build and retrofi t projects. The unit’s airfl ow design supports consistent ventilation performance and contributes to improved indoor air quality (IAQ). Compact R is fully compatible with the Daikin AHU-DX kit, enabling a fully integrated system in which the AHU and condensing unit operate on a single control platform. This reduces wiring complexity, speeds up commissioning and helps ensure consistent system performance. The main treatment coil – available as either a water or DX coil – is integrated directly into the unit, maintaining the compact footprint. The AHU-DX kit supports decarbonisation strategies by enabling heating and cooling without the need for gas boilers and is compatible with R-410A and R-32 refrigerants. Compact R can also be combined with Daikin VRV R-32 systems, featuring built-in safety devices to support compliance with current standards.
At the heart of Compact R is a rotary heat recovery wheel, available in condensation or sorption versions, capable of recovering both sensible and latent heat. By transferring energy from the exhaust air to the incoming fresh air, Compact R signifi cantly reduces overall energy demand while maintaining stable indoor conditions year-round. The unit features ePM1 50% (F7) fi ltration on the supply air and ePM10 75% (M5) fi ltration on the return air, delivering high indoor air quality while protecting internal components.

Kooltech
Kooltech has launched the KS1-BR41N, a new addition to its K-con bespoke solutions range. Also known as K-BRAIN, this self-contained control solution simplifi es the operation of the Mitsubishi Electric CAHV-R air source heat pump for managing both heating and domestic hot water (DHW) demands. Developed by Kooltech’s in-
house experts, this device removes the requirement for complex, expensive Building Management System (BMS) integration. The panel allows the user to set the DHW temperature and the fl ow heating temperature. A 3-port valve is controlled to enable the system to enter defrost mode with fl ow returned to the heating buff er, even if there is a DHW demand; once defrost mode is over, the system reverts to achieving the set point. Managing the changeover between space heating and DHW
production usually requires an expensive BMS solution, which results in higher costs, prolonged programming times, and complex commissioning. The KS1-BR41N overcomes these challenges by providing a dedicated, maintenance-free interface for the CAHV-R. The KS1-BR41N unit minimises on-site complexity and installation time. Its dedicated functionality makes the CAHV-R heat pump system suitable for a broader range of budget-conscious projects. It serves as the ideal control for smaller commercial applications such as care homes, schools, and small hotels, where a full BMS is costly and unnecessary. The KS1-BR41N provides contractors and specifi ers with the
key benefi t of single-source accountability. By choosing this K-con bespoke solution, you can work solely with Kooltech for the heat pump system, components, and control package, streamlining procurement and eliminating the need to coordinate multiple suppliers. The pre-engineered control platform ensures the CAHV-R prioritises DHW production when needed and then smoothly reverts to space heating, all without custom programming. Installation only requires simple wiring connections to the Mitsubishi Electric CAHV-R outdoor unit, a motorised valve (two- or three-port), and a remote temperature sensor in the domestic hot water cylinder.
