ENERGY SAVING Net zero, no detours

John Gallagher-Worthington, Sales Director at Carrier Rental Systems, explores how businesses can align practical energy solutions with their sustainability ambitions. By focusing on customer readiness and tailored support, he highlights the importance of meeting organisations at diff erent stages of their net-zero journey, ensuring that progress is achievable, measurable, and rooted in real-world operational needs.

'The transition to net-zero isn’t a cliff edge. It’s a continuum. And every step, no matter how small, matters.'

hen it comes to sustainability, there’s no one-size- fi ts-all approach. The journey toward net-zero is complex and evolving. It’s diff erent for every

organisation, sector and region. At Carrier Rental Systems, we recognise this and are committed to providing rental solutions that help customers achieve their objectives, wherever they are on their journey. PwC’s 2025 Energy Survey of UK organisations found the number of businesses committed to net-zero by 2030 has nearly doubled since last year, from 28% to 47%. The net-zero agenda is no longer a niche ambition. It’s a commercial, social and environmental imperative and one that’s increasingly shaping how companies across the UK operate. But as anyone in the industry knows, translating ambition into action is far from straightforward. What we’re seeing today is a landscape of varied starting points. Some organisations have aggressive carbon reduction targets embedded in their strategy and culture. Others are just beginning to explore viable alternatives to traditional power generation. Between them lies a broad spectrum of businesses testing technologies, weighing capital investment decisions

and grappling with infrastructure challenges, all while under pressure to deliver value and meet stakeholder expectations. The solution is to meet each customer where they are and

provide solutions that are technically robust and commercially and operationally appropriate for their current stage. Flexibility is fundamental.

Bridging ambition and reality One of the most signifi cant challenges facing organisations today is how to make meaningful change without overstretching resources or backing unproven technologies. That’s especially true when you consider the pace of innovation. What’s cutting-edge today may be overtaken tomorrow.

Rather than requiring customers to commit to fi xed, capital- intensive solutions, rental provides a powerful way to bridge that gap. It enables businesses to test new technologies in live environments, understand real-world performance and gather data before making long-term investments. Take, for example, our work with hybrid solar-battery- generator systems. By collaborating with pioneers in this
