Web Tension & Guiding

SteadyWeb tension controller D

Touchscreen control of web tension

over Flexo Electronics, Inc (DFE) has released the new, electronic, web-handling

device, the SteadyWeb6 Tension Controller. A compact, digital component that maintains a tension set point on a web- fed piece of converting machinery or press, the SteadyWeb6 Tension Controller takes a web tension signal from connected tension transducers (sensors) and sends a compensated signal to a tensioning device such as a pneumatic brake, clutch or a DC drive. The unit’s closed-loop PID control

algorithm enables manufacturers who work with web-fed machines and materials to improve their process output consistency and productivity. The SteadyWeb6’s five inch colour

touchscreen is bright, bold and so easy- to-use that machine operators are interacting with the controller proficiently

to control web tension after a few minutes of training. Initial setup and configuration time are minimal with illustrated prompts and colour graphics. The controller may be used in unwind,

rewind or intermediate tension zones. A variety of controller output modes is available for operating pneumatic or electric brakes and clutches, eddy current clutches, and DC and AC drives. A plant engineer who installed the

SteadyWeb6 on a slitter-rewinder notes, “Setting up a SteadyWeb is simple. I am very impressed with the menu layout and how easy it is to navigate through each stage of the setup.” ”I'm ready to tune the PID loop. The fact that I can adjust each segment while watching the Tuneview graph is brilliant! I can tell this was designed by people who have been out in the field doing startups.”

100 per cent inline inspection offers compact technology with easy integration into any machine

increase both quality and productivity of a printing line. Thanks to compact dimensions new

A

inspection solutions now enable every print shop to efficiently detect defects even in label and narrow-web production. In addition, the system from ISRA VISION's Plug and Inspect product portfolio can be put into operation quickly. It can be operated via a touch-sensitive surface. This enables print shops to increase the volume of saleable production while minimising waste. ISRA's NarrowSTAR offers an ideal

inspection solution that fits into any printing or converting machine for web widths of 330, 440 or 660 millimeters due to its compact dimensions. All components are integrated in one housing. High-quality camera and lighting components are used. Thanks to high-quality camera technology, the new inline process control from ISRA VISION delivers perfect images and enables even better detection rates - the special camera was designed and built by ISRA. It is based on the company's experience in many industries with demanding inspection tasks.

utomated quality assurance via inspection systems presents an easy way to

NarrowSTAR combines the inspection components into an easy-to-use product from the Plug & Inspect family, which can be operated via conventional LAN or wireless. Pre- calibration and a touch-control user interface in the style of familiar operating systems such as the latest Windows technology mean that commissioning and operation do not require expert knowledge. Inspection starts immediately after installation.

The processor used enables image acquisition and processing in real time. At the same time, the used algorithms allow a sustainable inspection performance by the reliable differentiation between relevant and irrelevant quality changes. As an additional module,

the QuickProof ensures that the correct job is printed with the PDF approved by the customer. Pseudo defects resulting from process deviations such as changed web tension of the flexible substrate can be eliminated by automatic compensation of position changes. All relevant errors from the printing of labels or flexible packaging such as splashes, veils, stripes or ink defects are reliably detected and documented. This allows the operator to intervene immediately, eliminate the cause of the error and avoid waste. ISRA VISION will be presenting its

products for narrow web and label production at Labelexpo Europe in Brussels at Stand 8B39 in Hall 8.
