Industry News Editor’s Comment

Welcome to the November issue of Converter This month, I have taken a particular notice of packaging that is 100 percent plant based. This was inspired by a tea brand that I regularly use who shall remain nameless, as I noticed that the packaging which holds the teabags, appearing to be plastic is, in fact, made from wood pulp. Researchers have created this biodegradable, recyclable wood-based plastic using wood powder waste. The process involves dissolving lignin, removing hemicellulose and casting a cellulose-lignin slurry into bioplastic fi lms. These eco-friendly fi lms can be used for bags and packaging, breaking down in soil within three months or can be easily recycled in water. Whilst this can admittedly be quite an expensive process, it certainly seems to be worthwhile for the good of the planet. In our November issue, we are covering a number of features, including

Coating and Laminating, Cutting Systems, Digital Printing, Luxury Packaging, Software and Controls and Static Control and Web Cleaning. As always, do get in contact with me at ynolan@datateam.co.uk for any interest in submitting to future issues.

Korozo Group signs up to support Meat Business Women

International flexible packaging solutions specialist, Korozo Group, has signed up as a supporting partner of Meat Business Women, the United Nations-recognised global professional community for women working across the meat industry. Meat Business Women was founded in 2015. The organisation was established to enhance the sustainability of the meat industry and to grow the pipeline of female talent in this traditionally male-dominated field, within an industry that is today valued in the region of $1.4 trillion globally. The organisation also recognises that there is a perception issue around working in the meat industry. Meat Business Women aims to transform this perception and ensure that the meat industry is seen as a place to build a fulfilling career, regardless of gender. The organisation’s membership marketing manager, Rebecca

Fearon, further noted that Meat Business Women provides various resources and tools to aid professional development and support women in reaching their career goals within the industry.
