Much of this comes down to the qualities of the material you are working with, particularly when it comes to coating. With the ability to enhance the look of printed pieces, as well as protect the print, the importance of coating on materials is huge.


There are several options available when it comes to primary coating options. These include dot pattern coating, whereby the size, frequency spacings and coat weight of the coating can be tailored to each application. Another option is stripes and bands, which can be applied in ways to meet the individual customer’s requirements. On top of this is the option to create customised patterns to meet specific customer needs. Here, you can match up the material with each job and ensure long-term success for the piece, with aqueous, solvent-based and hot melt adhesives among the options available to the market.


With regards to this customised industrial coating, the process of applying a chosen agent to a substrate, whether that be a polyacrylate adhesive, a specialist ink receptive coating or a silicone, some companies might wrongly assume that the adhesive is the only form of coating required to make their product work. However, other considerations should be taken into account, such as how ink sits on the surface or how the adhesive is able to stick to a brick wall, but not stick to the paper backing material that they remove prior to application. Trusted suppliers will have the facilities in place to carry out testing such as adhesive analysis, adhesive coat weight, age testing, release value testing, 90- and 180-degree peel strength testing, shear testing, tensile strength, elongation and customised adhesive coatings and sample preparation. This will all ensure the long-term success of custom coated solutions. However, do not let this scare you; developing a customised product is not as expensive as you may think and actually off ers a hugely eff ective solution that perfectly matches the requirements of each job you take on.
