AstroNova’s partners with SPF for printed electronics

AstroNova and SPF have announced a partnership between AstroNova’s QuickLabel and SPF’s Metallograph division to facilitate an easy, cost-effective digital printing method for producing flexible circuits.

QuickLabel manufactures and distributes sophisticated thermal

transfer printing systems for durable and high-end prime labels into diverse industries, many of which are now investing in flexible electronics. QuickLabel’s industrial thermal transfer printers are ideal for Metallograph, especially multi-layer printed electronics. With the inclusion of Metallograph continuous metallic conductive ribbons, QuickLabel can provide even greater value to its customer base. “We are excited to partner with QuickLabel, who has deep experience manufacturing printed circuit boards and supporting RFID applications, and has expertise with primary Metallograph applications,” said Dene Taylor, president of SPF-Inc. “As a result of our partnership, QuickLabel will be the first narrow web, full system provider to the flexible electronics industry.” The QLS-4100 XE multi-layer

roll-to-roll printer with Metallograph ribbons is the most productive single pass output device in this industry. This new solution from QuickLabel and SPF brings together the necessary elements of devices, inks, substrates, print quality, ribbon saver, and application expertise.

Baldwin Vision Systems launch complete solution for security printing

Baldwin Vision Systems (BVS) unveiled its complete printing and inspection solution at the SecurityPrinters Banknotes + Identity conference in late October. “What makes our solution unique in the industry,” according to Isaam Lutfiyya, BVS director of global sales and marketing,

“is that you can easily configure a complete system with components from the best technology manufacturers in our industry. Yet, you will have one single point of accountability for installation, training and support - rather than having to deal with multiple suppliers.” The Complete Solution can be any combination of feeders (roll or sheet), vacuum tables, inspection systems, inkjet printers, UV ink curing lamps, reject gates and bins, sheet stackers, real-time monitoring and reporting tools. For advanced defect detection, Baldwin Vision Systems provides the Guardian

PQV 100 per cent Print Inspection. Its state-of-the-art camera systems can be mounted on one or both sides of the substrate to perform 100 per cent inspection for print quality, variable data, and the most challenging security print features. As part of a data-connected defect management workflow, the Guardian PQV is a feature-rich inline defect detection system that enables printers to find and remove defects quickly, and monitor their processes to prevent defects from occurring in the first place. PQV provides complete print quality verification from prepress through production, reporting, and archiving for perfect runs.

Printer investment boosts growth at Peterborough label manufacturer

Peterborough-based labels manufacturer, AA Labels, is increasing capacity and annual growth following a £600,000 investment in new printing and label manufacturing equipment. The company has installed a £400,000 HP Indigo WS6800 Digital Press and two AB Graphics

(ABG) International Ltd 330 sheet label converting machines, at a cost of £100,000 each, as part of continuing investment plans to develop its production site to full operational capacity. The company is also making plans for a further six figure investment in an additional roll label converting machine this year to keep up with customer demand. It will be a high throughput producer of labels on rolls, taking its total number of roll label converters to four, and enabling improved production flexibility, fast order fulfilment and increased output. The HP Indigo WS6800 Digital Press has already streamlined production and increased

productivity, while providing high resolution printing, intelligent colour matching and reduced production waste. The speed of the press, at up to 30 metres per minute, will significantly contribute to an increase in production output and further reduce order fulfilment times.
