The supporting role of banner boxes L

Jetboxdelivers an improved presentation for banners at a super speedy rate

P Displays are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of POS and printed signage. Responding to a request for a new

presentation, LP chose square Jetbox packaging. The challenge was to transport high quality banners so that they were well protected, easy to open and the outer container be reusable. Traditionally spirally wound mailing

tubes would be used for this application however these are difficult to handle and store. Responding to the challenge, Jetbox offered their standard size 64mm x

64mm. Packed flat, the tubes were cut to length and processed within 7 days. Jetbox is made using Korsnas board – this is FSC and can be Kraft or white. With minimum quantities of 500 pieces and a fast delivery time the packaging offers an economic solution for small and medium tube requirements. Commenting on the application LP

Display managing director Mark Ellis described the journey. “We needed a fast solution as the customer had a tight deadline and budget,” he says. “Bell came

to our rescue and delivered the finished tubes within 7 days. Packing the tube was simple – we managed to complete 200 packs within 50 minutes. This has to be a world record and the finished presentation looked fantastic.” He concludes, “I will certainly be using

Jetbox on other projects and would recommend this solution to other clients”. Bell offer 4 standard sizes which are normally available within 10-14 days.

In fighting trim T

ecnoval Laminados, flexible packaging producer in Brazil,

has integrated X-Trim into its manufacturing process in its drive to increase throughput and reduce waste further.

A sustainable packaging producer, Tecnoval Laminados wanted to

improve its efficiency and reduce the waste of its cutting process. Barbara Santos, main planner at Tecnoval Laminados says: “X-Trim help us to create the trim plan in a clear and quick way. We have had very good results with the trimming plans. Besides the waste reduction, we have reduced our stock material (MTS).” Patrick Shaw, consultant at Greycon says: “Tecnoval achieved

remarkable results from the outset – a reduction of 1.2 per cent waste which translated into 1,800 kg/month. It also delivered improved productivity due to the reduction of knife changes and increased in production throughput along the runs. The planners were delighted that the software helped them improve their planning and the management of their time, as well as free up time so they could undertake other activities. I was delighted I could witness the success first-hand and Tecnoval could achieve substantial results in such a short time.” To prove that technological development and environmental

conservation can go together, Tecnoval Laminados was the first Latin American company to invest in a system that retrieves all the solvents obtained, generating a manufacturing process of cleaner films without eliminating pollutant gases in atmosphere.

Space saving splicer M

artin Automatic captured the imagination of both domestic and the larger than usual international presence at this year’s Labelexpo Americas with its space-saving butt splicer. This

new MBS model, which features a right-angle turnbar, requires only 1700mm (67in) of floorspace in the running direction. Speaking for the company, Gavin Rittmeyer, VP sales & marketing comments:

“The vertical festoons offer many advantages including the ability to orient machines into unique footprints. This appears to create space for end users where they thought it was impossible to fit in automation.” The combination of the

space-saving MBS and Martin LRD rewinder displayed at the show gave a book-end presentation requiring the smallest footprint for full-featured automation for label presses. The new MBS model on show in Chicago was sold to a key US converting customer. Martin also premiered 1/12 scale models of its machines for various industries beyond labels. These drew a range of interesting comments and opened

conversations among visitors, many of whom were appreciating the full range of Martin’s capabilities for the first time.
