Industry News IPEX 2017 exhibitors reflect on the success

of the event and plan for the future Post IPEX 2017, exhibitors have reflected on the success of the print industry’s event, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham. The exhibitors that showcased the latest products and technologies have

responded with their thoughts on the exhibition and the future of IPEX. Bob Usher, managing director, Apex Digital Graphics, said, “Apex had an

excellent show with the stand demonstrations blocking the isle every 90 minutes. We have consequently signed orders and moved many prospects further forward to a closing position.” Renz showcased its expanded portfolio of high performance finishing

systems with the Argos F400 ‘Cold Lamp’ LED UV Coater, the Bindomatic Accel Ultra and the Bindomatic Accel Cube thermal cover binding machines. Iain Bullock, managing director, Renz UK, said, “The quality of leads we

have had have been very good. We have met many existing customers who have all come to see the latest additions to our portfolio. We have been very happy with the order value we have taken. It was great to be back at the NEC and, for us, it was a good show.” Event director, Rob Fisher, concluded, “I believe that the favourable feedback and quality of visitors that attended IPEX reflects positively on the overall success of the event. We wanted the exhibition and our theme of ‘Print in Action’ to offer a unique, colourful and memorable experience for all. We have delivered a ground-breaking collaboration with the London College of Fashion and provided visitors with over 30 hours of unique and informative conference sessions. The feedback we’ve had from exhibitors and visitors indicates that we have achieved this, bringing a fresh outlook to the traditional print exhibition experience. Moving forward, we will further consult with the industry and hope to be in a position to announce our plans for IPEX in the new year.”

Starlinger launches new recycling

headquarters at customer event At this year’s customer event, ‘dynamic days’, held on October 23- 24, 2017 in Weissenbach, Lower Austria, Starlinger launched the new headquarters of its recycling technology division. The building

is located in close proximity to the existing Starlinger factory. Starlinger & Co. is one of the market leaders in the field of machinery and

process technology for woven plastic bags. In addition, its recycling technology division has firmly established itself on the market over the past 30 years. Until recently, the division was operating from the head office in Vienna, as well as from the Starlinger factory in Weissenbach. The event was attended by 150 participants from 34 countries. Day one

focused on odour reduction, with an overview of the technology available as well as a specialist presentation of odour profiling with quantitative and qualitative methods. PP regrind was processed on the recycling line recoSTAR dynamic: A machine with a smell extraction unit shown in operation in one of the assembly halls. Day two was dedicated to polyester recycling. For fibre production (bottle-to-fibre recycling), Starlinger recently developed a filter, the Rapid Sleeve Changer (RSC). This filter allows for fine filtration — a necessity in fibre production — and a rapid change of the filter elements without having to stop production. The event concluded with a visit to Starlinger’s PET Competence Centre.

Poly-Mer is the world’s first boat made from 99 per cent recycled plastic waste. It was launched November 2, from the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre in London, to raise awareness of the growing levels of plastic pollution in Britain’s waterways. Hubbub, a charity that creates environmental campaigns, built Poly-

mer, which will be used for ‘plastic fishing’ trips to clear plastic litter from the docks around London’s Canary Wharf. The recyclable material that is collected will be used to build more boats, creating a litter-busting fleet that can be deployed across the UK. Environment minister, Thérèse Coffey MP, boarded the boat for its maiden

voyage along with school children from nearby Canary Wharf College (CWC) and medal-winning British Paralympic sailor, Alexandra Rickham. Poly-Mer is a 12-seater punt, a type of boat that was designed over a thousand years ago, which contrastingly uses modern materials, such as recycled single-use plastic, or Plaswood. Plaswood is manufactured from 100 per cent recycled plastics, making it very cost-effective. This is the first time the material has been used for this purpose. Sky Ocean Rescue supported the build and Mark Edwards MBE, a Richmond-based boat builder who previously built the Queen’s barge, Gloriana, built the boat. Following the launch, the boat will continue to be used by the children of the Canary Wharf College and will be accessible to members of the public and businesses interested in taking part in ‘plastic fishing’ trips.
