n 2011, Hildebrand Technology introduced a fully integrated, intelligent self-monitoring, 24V DC supply static neutralising system with its


iONstream Fusion range. By incorporating the high voltage generators and control system within the iONstream Fusion bar profile itself this eliminated the need for external bulky low and high voltage power supplies and high voltage cables, which had been the standard static control configuration within the industry for many years up until that point. Today, Hildebrand Technology has taken the


next step in the field of static control with the introduction of a hazardous location version of iONstream Fusion, certified to the very latest EU Directive 2014/34/EU, II 2G IIB T6 for solvent and II 2D IIIB T 85°C for dust. Ionstream Fusion incorporates advanced on-


board self-monitoring technology. The system initiates in Pulsed DC mode and fires a quick succession of positive and negative ion pulses toward the target material to establish if there is a dominant polarity charge. If a dominant polarity charge is detected on


the target material, for example a negative charge, the system switches from Pulsed DC


mode to Auto DC mode. In auto DC mode the on board control system increases the output of the opposite polarity generator, in


this case the positive generator, so it emits a long 90 per cent pulse of the required positive ions so as to neutralise the negative charge on the target material.


At the end of this long pulse, a short 10 per cent negative pulse is emitted so the system can check if the materials dominant polarity has changed since it went into Auto DC mode. If no change is found, the system continues in Pulsed DC mode. If a polarity change is detected on the material, the Ionstream Fusion bar switches back into Pulsed DC mode and begins the electrostatic field sampling process again. This long pulse of the required positive polarity ions with only a very short pulse of the non


required negative polarity ions results in a very efficient neutralisation of the static charge on the surface of the target material. When Auto DC with its 90 per cent required or 10 per cent non-required output is compared to other types of technology used today — such as Pulsed DC with its output of 50 per cent required or 50 per cent non-required ions, or with AC systems and their approximate 30 per cent output efficiency (due to incorrect polarity output, zero volt pass point and corona build point) — it is easy to understand how Auto DC makes iONstream Fusion one of the most efficient static neutralisation systems in the market today. www.webtekuk.com
